Agenda/Business: Jennifer called the meeting to order. Senators who were absent or late were noted. Larry Daniels moved to approve the minutes of the February 12, 2008 meeting, seconded by Kevin Devine.

President’s Report: Jennifer Anzuena

Jennifer started off her report by requesting that five senators sit at the student leadership table at this Sunday’s Open House. She then went on to say that after the meeting she wanted to take a professional picture with all the senators. Jen also asked the senators to volunteer to participate in the Circle K volleyball tournament on Monday, March 3rd. She finished her report by saying that President Saatkamp will be coming to the committee meeting next Tuesday to give an update on the college.

Committee Reports: Finance

Psychology Club submitted a supplemental request in the amount of $1,965.03 for a trip to the Eastern Psychological Association meeting in Boston, MA. Eight students will be attending the three-day meeting along with two professors. Four students will be presenting results of experiments that they have conducted at Stockton. Larry moved to approve the supplemental, seconded by Danielle.

UBSS submitted a supplemental request in the amount of $3,040 to attend the National Council of Black Studies Conference. The conference is the largest conference focusing on Africana studies in the country and attendance for past conferences have been instrumental in getting more Africana Studies courses on campus. Larry moved the supplemental, seconded by William.

The Criminal Justice and Pre-law club submitted a supplemental request in the amount of 1,465.52 to attend the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Conference. They go to the conference every year and it’s a good way to network with other colleges focusing on Criminal Justice. John moved the supplemental, seconded by John Odoardo.

School Spirit

Mike reported that the Spirit Week meeting took place Thursday, February 21 to discuss different issues ranging from club responsibilities to financial costs. They also discussed ways to try to improve Spirit Week. Different events and ways of having events were talked about and will be further talked about at the meeting with the clubs. He also talked about some sort of club contest. Mike then went on to say that the new furniture for the Osprey’s Nest will come in sometime mid March and that clubs can start thinking about things to put on the walls.

Academic Policies

Jyron reported that the committee met with Stephen Davis, Associate Dean of Students, to go over the new petition for the drop/add policy. Mr. Davis is going to report back to the Dean of Students with the committee’s concerns. The committee members are asking all senators to get their petitions signed.

Jyron was scheduled to meet with Dr. David Carr, Provost and Executive Vice President, on Tuesday, February 26th at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the drop/add policy but the meeting had to be moved to a later date.

Dawn reported that she attended the Faculty Assembly Meeting, at which time the faculty discussed different issues, such as tuition going up along with grants.

Public Relations

William reported that the committee made some alterations to the timetable for the upcoming Student Senate and Board of Trustees Elections. The committee was also given a Public Relations checklist in order to do jobs more efficiently. The committee discussed advertising plans for the upcoming Student Senate guest speaker, Erin Brockovich, as well. Finally, they briefly met with the School Spirit Committee to get an idea for possible activities to promote school spirit.

Student Welfare

Chantal reported that her committee was going to have an “Issues” table for Wednesday and Thursday. She circulated a paper for senators to sign if they could sit at the table.

She will write a weekly column in the Argo informing the Stockton community of the issues that the committee has addressed/resolved.

She will email the committee members of their new tasks after discussing the new issues with Harry Maurice, Assistant Director of Student Development.

Chantal ended the report by referring to a flyer she made that spells out information about the senate and how to contact her.

Announcements/Comments from the Public:

Tom Sunchuck talked about the NACA conference and thanked the senate for sending SET members there.

Lamott Moore, Director of Student Development, announced that the new Web Portal Project, which allows students to see their balances and club information, along with much more, is in the testing stage. It is a system that is customized to the individual students. He asked for 20 volunteers to test the portal starting the week of March 17th.

Luanne Anton, Health Educator, talked about Wellness Day, which will take place on Thursday, March 6th in the G-wing lounge. She said there will be tons of vendors and free tests along with free lunch in G-208. She wants everyone to spread the word about it.

Elaine Grant, Interim Director of Summer Programs and Special Projects, distributed handouts explaining how to check for your balance of your ID card and also to stop the use of your account if you lose your card. She then went on to talk about having a one card system where anything and everything will be done through one ID card. She asked for feedback on three different designs for the new card.
