The primary aim of the Urgent and Emergency Care Clinical Leadership Group (CLG) is to work in partnershipto improve urgent and emergency care outcomes that matter to Londoners. The Group’s focus will be on programmes that deliver large and lasting change, and is well placed to bring service users, carers, commissioners, providers and other stakeholders together with a real focus on patient and population benefit.

The Urgent and Emergency CareClinical LeadershipGroup is now seeking applications from individuals interested in joining the Group. Members will be responsible for providing strong clinical and professional direction, essential to the NetworkGroup’s role in supporting high quality clinical commissioning.

Each member of the Network Group will be expected to contribute to key areas of work. We are therefore looking for people with drive and enthusiasm and who are capable of leading improvements in urgent and emergency care across London.

The areas of focus for the London Network Group will align with national priorities but will also need to address the particular needs of Londoners. With this in mind, broad London priorities will include:

  1. Ongoing implementation of the urgent and emergency care aspects of the London Quality and Safety Programme;
  2. Implementation of the recommendations from the national Urgent and Emergency Care Review;
  3. Implementation of the recommendations from the national Seven Day Services Review;
  4. Response to A Call to Action;
  5. Improvement across the urgent and emergency care access standard; and
  6. Implementation of current urgent and emergency care initiatives (e.g. NHS 111)

More particular areas of focus within these areas will be agreed by the Network Group in consultation with key stakeholders.

Members of the Group will:

  • Provide collective leadership to ensure high quality care across the entire patient journey
  • Participate in the decision making process in clinical service planning and delivery
  • Provide objective, evidence-based solutions on major clinical strategic decisions which address quality and safety issues across the capital
  • Debate and develop clinical and pathway recommendations that improve patient care in London for consideration, consensus and implementation, including clinical service planning and reform, innovative models of care and service delivery
  • Facilitate joint understanding and a holistic view of London’s health economy; to promote greater co-ordination and integration across all service areas and sites of care

Applicants will be expected to have relevant expertise and experience within one or more of the priority areas. In addition we welcome applications from people with experience in:

  • Provision of urgent and emergency care in primary care, community care, acute care (both specialist and local care) and the ambulance service
  • Commissioning – from clinical commissioning groups
  • Nursing and allied health care provision and commissioning

We expect the group to meet bi-monthly once established, but monthly meetings may be needed initially. Members will be expected to spend time developing the work and engaging with stakeholders outside of formal meetings.

If you would like to discuss your application, please contact us via email, r r Lucy Grothier, Associate Director, Strategic Clinical Networks or on 020 7932 3192.

Membership applications (below) should be emailed to by Wednesday 16thOctober 2013. Applicants will be notified of membership status byFriday 25thOctober 2013.
