STEELMEN WRESTLING

2016-17 TEAM RULES

  1. Steelmen Wrestling does not make cuts, athletes will be removed only for poor attendance, poor work ethic, or discipline problems.
  2. Excused absences from school are considered excused absences from practice. Any other absence requires prior clearance from a coach or communication from a parent to be excused. Five unexcused absences can result in dismissal from the team. Coaches will suspend an athlete from a meet for poor attendance (excused or unexcused).
  3. Lineups can be decided by challenges or coaches’ decision.
  4. It is expected that you will wrestle at an appropriate weight class, this is determined by our body fat test. Athletes that choose to ignore the results of the body fat test and wrestle up a weight, may not be allowed a challenge at their present weight. The excess body fat is an indication of lack of commitment to their team and the sport of wrestling.
  5. An athlete that does not attend an event that they were scheduled to wrestle will be suspended from contest participation, and it will count as many unexcused absences as matches missed. The duration of the suspension is dependent upon the number of matches the athlete has missed (tournaments count as three).
  6. If you are injured, see a coach before going to see the trainer. We need to be aware of all injury situations.
  7. If you are injured or ineligible, you will still be required to be at practice, even if you only watch. The exception to this rule is alternate arrangements allowed by your coach.
  8. Doctor and Dentist appointments are a poor excuse to miss practice. If it’s absolutely necessary to miss a practice, show an appointment card to your coach. SIP day mornings are a great time to schedule appointments.
  9. Work is not an excuse to miss practice, unless prior arrangements have been made with your coach.
  10. Forgetting practice clothes or shoes is not an acceptable reason to miss a practice. BE RESPONSIBLE!
  11. You are expected to represent the Steelmen Wrestling program in a positive manner at school, at events, and anywhere that people associate you with our team. Any discipline issues in school can result in team discipline as well.
  12. You are financially responsible for your uniform. Keep it washed and neat. Wear it only on meet days and never allow another individual to wear any part of your uniform.
