21.THE DANIEL HEENAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP(# and amounts vary)

This scholarship (or scholarships is in honor of Daniel Heenan who died unexpectedly in October of 2001.Dan grew up in Easton and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School (AWHS) in Braintree in 1998. Although he chose to attend AWHS, Dan continued his many friendships here in town. These relationships were important to Dan and therefore we feel it is fitting that scholarships be awarded to qualifying seniors from both schools – we know Dan would have wanted it this way.

During high school, Dan was a welcome “presence” in the classroom and also had a larger, very special presence in the school community. He was very popular with his peers and respected by the faculty. He exhibited

loyalty to his friends, supporting them whenever and wherever it was needed be it on the playing field, the stage, or at a Student Council function—everyone knew they could count on Dan. As a member of the varsity baseball and hockey teams Dan’s work ethic and spirit were unmatched. He demonstrated a genuine maturity in handling personal setbacks for the good of being a part of the team. Dan may not have been the best at everything he did, but he left a lasting impression with everyone who had the good fortune of sharing his company—he was the best at being good to others.
