Terms of Reference

Purpose

The [insert name of wellness committee] will improve employee health by addressing factors related to the physical work environment, the individual health practices of employees, the organizational culture of the workplace and its social responsibility through a variety of strategies.

  • Champion health and wellness in the workplace.
  • Identify health and wellness issues that are important to employees.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate workplace wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Encourage employee participation in wellness initiatives.

Composition

The [insert name of wellness committee]will represent the broad employee base of the [Insert name of workplace] to ensure that the wellness and health needs, interests and concerns of the employees and management are being met.

List representatives (e.g. member from management team, human resources, unions, health and safety committee, departments, etc.).

Frequency of meetings

Meetings will be held (how often, what day and time and location).

Is a quorum required to proceed with the meeting?

Minutes will be taken by team members on a rotating basis. The minute taker will be responsible for recording and distributing the minutes for that meeting.

Term of Membership

The term of membership will be two years, with half of the committee being replaced each year to ensure consistency.

Reporting Mechanism

Determine how the committee will report back to management and to staff and how frequently.

Roles and Responsibilities

Chair

  • Prepare an agenda and facilitate meetings.
  • Be committed and enthusiastic about wellness in the workplace.
  • Encourage participation from all team members.
  • Guide the team towards a common goal.

Members

  • Be committed and enthusiastic about wellness in the workplace.
  • Attend meetings and be prepared to discuss items on the agenda.
  • Represent their department’s needs, concerns and interests.
  • Act as a link between the wellness team and their department.
