From the Desk of the Principal

It is hard to believe that May is just around the corner! It seems like just yesterday that we were getting our school year started, and now we are a little over a month away from the end of the 2016-17 school year.

Congratulations to our DSCS 2nd graders who made their First Communion on Sunday;

Luke Hamm, Emma Hemschemeyer, Beaux Jung, Maxwell Klaus, Braydon Lowrance-Eischen. Alaya Ramirez, and Nolan Wood

May DSCS be a support to all of our first communicants as they continue to grow in their faith. Special thanks to second grade teacher Carla Schommer for all of her hard work preparing our students for this important sacrament. Special thanks, also, to DRE Terri Reisselmann for her unmatched commitment to ensuring that all of the youth of our parish and school have the best possible preparation for the sacraments they experience.

This week we will continue our Iowa Basic Testing in grades 5k-5th. These tests are very important because our teachers use the data to help improve instruction and to make plans for the improvement of student learning. They also give us the information we need to help meet each of our students where they are at and move them forward. Please be sure your children are in school, well rested, and have them eat a healthy breakfast too!

Today we are lucky to have the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department serving lunch to our students! It is wonderful to have the opportunity for all of our students to get to know some of the officers who are sworn to protect and serve within our community. Our students are also excited about our all-school field trip this Friday to the Milwaukee County Zoo- busy week!!!

Yours in Faith, Lynn Sauer

2017 Dinner Auction on October 14th

Planning for our biggest fundraiser – 2017 Dinner Auction on October 14th- has started. Last year the auction did raise $39,000, which is a large amount of the commitment to our parish of $55,000. The auction is one of your revenue volunteer positions that each family needs to perform to fill their obligation. One family member will need to sign up for an auction commitment at theMay 10th Home & School Meeting. You will need to sign up for a commitment this year and baking one dessert will not fulfill your obligation. Some of the volunteering jobs will mainly take place on the night of the auction on October 14th such as, room police/ room closers, welcome table helper, games, and checkout. If you cannot make it to the auction, one should sign up for one of the following sub-committee:

Donations, class projects, big raffle sales at church, or decorations. There are limited positions under each committee.

PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING THE HOME AND SCHOOL MEETING SO YOU CAN GET THE sub-COMMITTEE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE PART OF. A sign up genius will be put out after the Home and School meeting with the positions that are left– however, if you want a specific sub-committee it is strongly encouraged that you sign up at the meeting.

In addition, we are looking for businesses to sponsor/donate our big raffle printing cost. If you have a business or know anyone that will be willing to pay for printing, we will place the name of your business on the tickets or in our book/ bulletins. Please contact Laurie Dybul at or at (262)483-3625 for more information.

Finally, we are seeking BIG Raffle Donations. If you know anyone or businesses that would be willing to donate a large ticket item for the LIVE Auction, we would greatly appreciate it. Some examples are, but not limited to, tickets/ box tickets to a sporting event or concert, get-aways to condos/ timeshares/ hotels, sports items, motorized vehicles, lawn items, etc. All donations are tax deductible. Please contact Laurie Dybul if you need to discuss further details.

Please consider helping with a donation and see you on May 10th to sign up! SAVE the date for October 14th – it is a fun event!

The Auction Committee: Ashley Schmitz, Pattie Miller, Jenn Delwiche, Cathy Cuppan, Laurie Dzeiken, Linda Weyker, Angie Kellar, Chad Keller, Amy Dubey, Andy and Marissa McKee, Lisa Fellenz, Jessica Eischen, and Laurie Dybul

Food Pantry Collection; Items needed this week; Manwich, tuna, Skillet Dinners, tomato paste / sauce, soft / hard shell tacos, shampoo, 12 oz., tooth paste, paper towels, cereal, detergent

WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME: A child who comes to school when ill is unlikely to be able to fully participate in learning activities. They may also pose a health risk to other students and staff if they are sick with a communicable disease.

The next movie on April 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the OLL Community Room is The Impossible. Based on a true story, Maria and Henry and their three boys are on a family Christmas Vacation in Thailand, enjoying their beachfront resort when their world is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to them, a huge earthquake across the ocean has triggered a massive tsunami…one of the most devastating natural catastrophes on record. This is their story (from movie case). 114 minutes. PG-13. Bring your own snacks.

Learn more about the Catholic faith.Deb Hamm will be meeting with three moms of DSCS students soon. Two of them will become Catholic, and one will be Confirmed. We also have a gentleman who will be joining the group who has not yet been baptized. If you are thinking about becoming Catholic, or are Catholic and would like to deepen your own faith, and would like to join them, please contact Deb. If you are not Catholic and just want to learn more about what we believe (but aren’t sure you want to become Catholic), that is fine. There will be no pressure placed upon you.
