COMPETENCY CAFÉ

15 minutes Explanation of Competency Café

·  Group check-offs

Demonstrator – student will perform the skill

Prompter – student will prompt the demonstrator (more than 4 prompts

will be unsatisfactory)

Reviewer – student will have criteria sheet for skill but cannot prompt

or comment during the check-off

After completion of skill – the group will determine if the skill was

performed satisfactorily; the instructor can veto any decision

made by the group

30 minutes Practice and review time for competency skills check-offs

15 minutes BREAK

2.75 hours Skills Check Off

·  Buretrol/Soluset System versus Straight Set I.V. tubing

·  Height (in cm & ft) and Weight (in kg & lbs) measurement

·  Diapers (identification, changing & weighing)

·  Infant/Baby “wrapping” (mummy restraint)

·  Pediatric “Head to Toe” Assessment (Focus Assessment)

30 minutes LUNCH BREAK

45 minutes MEDICATION/MATH EXAM (Calculation of dosages, etc.)
