9)Director Updates

(1)Suzy – CVUSD District Updates – starting recruiting teachers for next year, real need for math and science teachers. The ASD program being implemented at Alma Preschool with direction from the Diagnostic Center is going very well – program has been received recognition and is receiving exploratory visits from districts from all over the state.

(2)SELPA Updates – PPIC (Public Policy Institute of CA) report regarding Spec Ed funding and existence of SELPAs is currently being reviewed. The governor is requesting additional information. General agreement is that Spec Ed needs adequate funding across all SELPAs. Lumping all funding into general fund does not protect special education funds. There will be a stakeholder meeting on March 17 in San Mateo – reservations for this meeting are high, governor is surprised at pushback. General consensus – the funding is broken, not the SELPA.

(3)Ed Diolazo - San Lorenzo USD – currently have 10 teacher openings for next year. ESY packets have gone out, expecting approximately 200 students for ESY – will include elementary, middle and high school levels. District received $12K in grant funds to be used in PD focusing on literacy/reading. The must host 4 PD days between now and end of school years.

(4)Colleen Palia – San Leandro USD – significant restructuring going on at SLUSD. Colleen is the new Spec Ed Director. Recently completed their FCMAT review and are awaiting the written report. District expects to need at least 6 teachers for next year. Currently using outside agencies for SLPs and expect to continue doing so. Paras are difficult to find and hire. Transportation has improved over the year. Transportation company is finding it difficult to recruit drivers. First Student is expected to assume transportation services in Fall 2017. Summer school programs will be reduced this year due to budget constraints – all ESY will be done at one location.

10)New/Other Business – none.

11)Announcements – Celeste intends to step down from CAC parent representative role for the 2017-18 schoolyear. San Lorenzo USD can select replacement or continue with current parent rep – Theresa Oller, or both.

12)General Public Comment – Patty indicated she likes the way our CAC meetings are held, she feels high school teachers struggle with curriculum and feel somewhat isolated.
