ACT TESTING FOR JUNIOR STUDENTS ONLY / 2014 /

Dear Parents/Guardian of 11th grade student of Brighton High School,

The ACT TEST(No Writing)

will be given to only 11th Grade Students at Brighton High School

onTuesday, March 4, 2014.

Only 11th grade students will be ALLOWED AT BHS

from 7:30 am till 11:25 am on Tuesday, March 4.

(Canyons School District sponsors this test at no cost to the Junior/2015 Class students)

Brighton High School will be on an adjusted time schedule for classes and buses

(seeattached adjusted time schedule and bus schedule).

Your student will attend a PRE ACT TEST REGISTRATION during their 1st period class in the cafeteria. They must report to their 1st period class, and then students who teacher’s last name from A to I will be registered on Monday, February 24 and students whose teacher’s last name from J to Z will be registered on Tuesday, February 25.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2014, all 11th grade students will report to their assigned classroom at Brighton High School at 7:30 AM for the ACT Test (no writing). The 1st bus run will be for 11th grade students only and the second bus run will be made for 9th, 10th, and 12th grade students. Please note the enclosed schedule for these buses.

11th Grade students will need to bring three items:

  1. Calculator
  • You may use a calculator on the ACT Mathematics Test but not on any of the other tests in the ACT. You are NOT required to use a calculator. All problems on the Mathematics Test can be solved without a calculator.
  • You may use any four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator, unless it has features described in the Prohibited Calculator’s list. (See enclosed attachment or go to and enter “calculator” as a keyword search for the most up-to-date information on permitted and prohibited devices.) Calculators will be checked by supervisors in your assigned classroom on the day of the test. If you use a prohibited calculator, the student will be dismissed and your answer document will not be scored.
  1. Photo Identification Required
  2. Unless the assigned testing staff can personally recognize you, ACCEPTABLE PHOTO IDENTIFICATION must be presented at the time of check-in or you will not be admitted to the test. The ID you present must be original, not a photocopy or reproduction. Present ONE of the following:
  • Current (valid) Official Photo ID: Must be issued by your school or city/state/federal government (such as driver’s license or passport) on which BOTH your name and current photograph appear.
  • Letter of identification with PHOTO. Must be on original school letterhead with a raised or inked school seal and include an attached recognizable recent photograph with the school seal or official’s signature personally sign the letter in the presence of the school official (who may NOT be a relative, and that official must also personally sign the letter.) You will be required to sign this letter again on test day. Please contact Mrs. Monique Scofield in the counseling center for letter of identification with PHOTO. This type ID must be done prior to Monday, March 3, 2014.
  1. Pencils
  • Use sharpened soft lead No. 2 pencils with good erasers (no mechanical pencils or ink pens). Because your answer document will be processed by machine be sure to bring several No. 2 pencils. One pencil will be provided by Brighton High School.

Optional items:

  1. Watch (no cellphones) to pace yourself. Your supervisor will announce when 5 minutes remain on each test. You must turn off all alarms and sounds on the watch.
  2. Snacks to eat outside the test room during break.

DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS INTO THE TEST ROOM OR USE DURING THE BREAK: You will be dismissed if any of these items are used from 7:30 – 11:25 am

  1. Books, dictionaries, notes, scratch paper, or any unapproved testing aids
  2. Highlight pens, colored pens or pencils or correction fluid
  3. ANY electronic device other than a permitted calculator (examples include timer, cell phone, media player, headphones, IPAD). ELECTRONIC DEVICES CANNOT be used during any breaks.
  4. Reading material, back pack.
  5. Tobacco in any form.

BEFORE TEST DAY:

  1. Prepare for the tests by reviewing Preparing for the ACT, which can be downloaded from
  2. Complete the pre-test portions of your answer document during the scheduled in-school session which will be Monday, Feb 24 or Tuesday, Feb 25 during 1st period. If the pre-test registration is not completed by Weds. Feb 26 the student will not be allowed to take the test on March 4 but will be allowed to participate in the makeup pre-test registration and makeup ACT test on March 18. Make up pre-test registration will be Mon Feb 24 2:30 pm and Weds Feb 26 at 7 am, 2:30 pm and 4 pm in the BHS Media Center.
  3. If you do not have acceptable photo ID and the testing staff do not know you personally, ask a school official for a letter of ID with photobefore March 3, 2014.
  4. Review the information about permitted and prohibited calculators.

ON TEST DAY:

  1. Students must be seated at 7:30 am in the assigned testing roomat Brighton High School. (Enclosed attachment) You will not be admitted to test if you are late, which is once the test booklets have been distributed to the students. Bring picture ID, calculator, and #2 pencils.

The bell and class schedule that will be followed for the remainder of the day on March 4this attached. All students except 11th grade students, involved in programs away from school in the morning or the afternoon will be expected to attend their off-campus programs at the regularly scheduled times.
