Cal Ripken Major (10-12yrs) House League Rules
1.Teams will consist of minimum 10 players and maximum 12 players. 10 year olds must be able to compete at this level or will be appointed to minor division.
2.All players present will be in batting line-up but only 9 defensive players per inning on field. Infield positions are catcher, 1st base, 2nd base, pitcher, short stop and 3rd base. Outfield is left field, centre field, and right field. If only 8 players present, then left centre and right centre fielder only. 9th position is not an automatic out while batting.
3.Each game will be a minimum of 4 innings and maximum of 6 innings. Games will have a time curfew of 1 hour and 45 minutes (weeknights) or 2 hours (Sat or Sun).No new innings after this time. Extra innings are at the determination of the coaches of each team, the time and umpire(s).
4.Bases are to be set at 70’. Pitching plate is at 50’. Stealing and lead offs permitted. Balk rule may be called by umpire if pitcher has been warned in game by umpire about balk.
5.Pitchers also can only pitch a maximum of 6 innings in any week (Sun-Sat). 1 pitch in an inning constitutes an inning. Pitchers must be removed from pitching position after 3 visits during game from coach. (i.e. 3rd visit pitcher removed from game). If pitcher removed on 2nd visit or 1st visit, pitcher may re-enter pitching position until a 3rdvisit has occurred. No pitch count rule, however coaches are urged to use responsible caution.
6.Infield fly rule at this level is in effect.
7.NO head first sliding except for returning to a base. Players must slide at plate in event of (possible) play. No running contact with catchers will be permitted.
8.Rule book mercy rule in effect.
9.Batters are to wear batting helmet at all times included on base paths.
10.Base coaches are to be adults. If necessary to use a player, the player must wear a batting helmet. If a new pitcher is warming up in field of play, additional player with helmet must ‘protect’ catchers back.
11.Catcher is to wear all catchers gear, including leg guards, chest protector and helmet while on the field or warming up any pitcher any where.
12.Team on right hand of schedule is home team and will occupy 3rd base bench and bat 2nd.
13.Home team responsible for preparing field and umpires for game.
14.Any rule not covered here will be covered by the Babe Ruth League rulebook and / or ruled on by the game umpire. No protests will be permitted.
15.Player of the game awards (if available) will be determined by each team coach.
