III. ROUTINE MATTERS:

*A. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to accept the Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting held on October 26, 2010.

*B. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to accept the following Cash Disbursement Schedules: SN-43 through SN-57.

*C. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to accept the Treasurer’s Report for the month ending October 31, 2010.


IV. NEW BUSINESS:

A.  INSTRUCTIONAL:

APPOINTMENTS:

*1. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to appoint Rachel Pixley to the position of long-term substitute leave replacement for Rebekah Kermani, high school English teacher, Dover High School, effective October 4, 2010.

OTHER:

*1. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the request by Kelly Pylypshyn for thirty days child-rearing leave. The beginning date will be on or about February 1, 2011 through March 14, 2011.

*2. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the request by Michelle Penik to extend her child-rearing leave until June 30, 2011. She plans to return to work full time for the start of the fall semester.

*3 It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the extension of Nicole Altieri as long-term substitute teacher for Michelle Penik until June 30, 2011.

*4. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the request by Courtney Roe for child rearing leave. The beginning date will be on or about December 17, 2010 through September 1, 2011.

B. NON-INSTRUCTIONAL:

RESIGNATIONS: None

APPOINTMENTS:

*1. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the creation of a new Custodial Worker position. This position is in lieu of a Custodian position that is hereby inactivated. The Dutchess County Personnel Dept. has approved this transaction.

Salary: $26,947.00 per year

Benefits: In accordance with the CSEA Non-Instructional unit contract

Effective: 11/17/2010

OTHER: None

C. OTHER BUSINESS:

*1. APPROVAL OF COMMITTEE ON SPECIAL EDUCATION RECOMMENDATIONS:

It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, that the following resolution be adopted:

Upon the determination after review by the Dover District committee on Special Education, and with parental notification and consent, the following students shall be placed in Special Education programs, as outlined in Attachment: #111610-01.

Names of students are on file in Office of Special Education; however, in accordance with Provisions of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1976, as amended, the Dover Union Free School District shall maintain the confidentiality of pupil records.

*2. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the recommendation of CSE/CPSE Committee members for the 2010-2011 school year

*3. DONATIONS:

It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to accept the donation of the following items:

a)  Donation from Kathy Nace and Kathleen Nace:

To the Dover Elementary School – Selection of 21 books from the Value Tales book series

b)  Donation from Dykeman’s Farm:

To Mrs. Elliott’s Culinary Connections class – pumpkins for use in the kitchen

*4. FIELD TRIP REQUESTS:

It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the following field trip requests:

a)  Request from Dave Lawson to take AP European History students to NYC on 1/7/2011 to complement the AP Euro curriculum of architecture, religion, impressionism, post impressionism, cubism, and modernism and to visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, and Museum of Modern Art.

b)  Request from Danielle Gelbman to take approximately 120 7th grade students to Boston MA, leaving on 5/19/2011 and returning on 5/20/2011. Students attending the trip will pay $230 for transportation, hotel, tours, food, hotel security, taxes, and gratuities.

c)  Request from Dana VanDeBogart to take 5th grade class to see the Lion King on Broadway in New York City on 6/8/2011. Students attending the trip will pay $95. Transportation will be paid for via fundraising and the 5th grade account.

*5. It is recommended by Michael Tierney, Superintendent of Schools, to approve the Dover Union Free School District 2010/2011 Superintendent’s Evaluation Form.
