Policy Number: 204.03
Policy Title: Visitors at Stations
Adopted: 01/17/2014
Rescinds: New
Approved By: (Chief)
I. PURPOSE:
This policy provides the Flint Hill Fire Department (FHFD) rules when non members of the FHFD are present in department stations.
II. DISCUSSION:
As a public service organization the FHFD is committed to maintaining superior relations with the citizens we serve. As a result the department has an open door policy for visitors in department stations. This includes station tours, guests of department members and any other non department member who visits a department station. Certain parameters must be in place for the safety of visitors and the efficient operations of the fire department. This policy details the station visitation rules of the FHFD.
III. POLICY:
GENERAL
1) Visitors are not permitted to enter station sleeping rooms or locker rooms.
2) Visitors are not permitted to enter a workshop area or apparatus bay unless escorted by a department member.
3) When escorting visitors in an apparatus bay, members shall not allow children to play on, around, or with emergency apparatus or equipment without careful and close supervision. This includes children of members.
4) Visitors shall not be allowed to disrupt any training or work activities within the station.
5) Minors shall remain under the supervision and control of an adult at all times.
6) Visitors are expected to abide by department rules and regulations while in a department station (e.g., tobacco, alcohol, conduct, etc.)
7) Visitors shall not be allowed to enter or remain in a station when no department member is present or if the department members present do not wish to take responsibility for the visitors. An example would be when a dispatch is received and all members leave the station to respond. (See below for an exception).
GUESTS OF DEPARTMENT MEMBERS
1) Department members are permitted to have personal guests at the stations between the hours of 9:00 AM and 11:00 PM daily.
2) Department members may not engage in amorous activities at any time with guests.
3) The department member hosting the guest assumes responsibility for the guest’s actions.
4) The immediate family of department members may remain in a station if a dispatch is received and the department member must respond.
