WEEKLY LESSON PLAN
TEACHERE.WhitesideCOURSEPreCalCP and Pre-AP
28th WEEK OF SCHOOLDATES:03/20 – 03/24/2017_
Learning Focus–Unit #6 – Analytic Trigonometry
Monday 03/20TEKS –
PC.1A, PC.1B / 1.The students will learn right triangle trigonometry.
- Engage and connect
- Establish identities
- Define the six trigonometric functions as the ratios of the sides of a right triangle
- Find the value of trigonometric functions of acute angles using a right triangle
- Solve right triangles
4.Check for understanding – Student discussion and responses to questions
5.Assignment – Page 527 # 9 – 17 odd, 29 – 36 CP
Page 527 # 9 – 27 odd, 29 – 40 Pre-AP
Tuesday 03/21
TEKS –
PC.1A, PC.1B / 1.The students will solve applied problems.
- Engage and connect
- Establish identities
- One common use for trigonometry is to measure heights and distances that are awkward or impossible to measure by ordinary means.
- Applications
•Finding the inclination of a mountain trail
•Finding the height of a cloud
- Define angle of elevation and angle of depression
4.Check for understanding – Student discussion and responses to questions
5.Assignment – Page 528 # 49 – 54. 57 – 59, 61 – 64 CP
Page 528 # 49 – 65 Pre-AP
Wednesday 03/22
PC.1A, PC.1B / 1.The students will learn the Law of Sines
- Engage and connect
- Establish identities
- Law of Sines will allow us to solve oblique triangles.
- Solve SAA and ASA triangles.
- Solve SSA triangles. This kind of triangle is referred to as the ambiguous case. There are three possible cases with the given information: one triangle, two triangles or no triangles
4.Check for understanding – Student discussion and responses to questions
5.Assignment – Page 539 # 9 – 27 odd CP
Page 539 # 9 – 35 odd Pre-AP
Thursday 03/23
PC.1A
PC.1B / 1.The students will use the law of Sines to solve physical world problems
- Engage and connect
- Solve a triangle
- Use the Law of Sines to solve physical world problems.
•Surveying
•Finding the length of a ski lift
•Finding the height of a mountain
•Finding the height of an airplane
Guided practice – throughout the lesson
4.Check for understanding – Student discussion and responses to questions
5.Assignment – Word Problem Practice
Friday 03/10
PC.3E / 1.The students will apply law of sines and right triangle trigonometry measure a mountain
- Engage and connect
- Solve a triangle
- Use the law of sines and trigonometry tomeasure the height of mountains and othersimilar problems.
- This lesson is based on the story of twosurveyors mapping Whales as seen in themovie "The Englishman Who Went Up a HillBut Came Down a Mountain”
- Students will practice solving word problems involving triangles.
4.Check for understanding – Student discussion and responses to questions
5.Assignment – None
