- How to Enter the Contest:
A. The BAY AREA’S TOP PET will begin June 9th 2008 and will end on July 20th 2008.
B. To participate in the contest, you must register using a brief on-line application, available at , and upload one or more digital photographs of your pet to cwbayarea.com by midnight on June 29th. The photo or photos should include pictures of your dog or cat.
You may also upload an optional video audition of not less than one minute and not more than three minutes in length. In the video you may:
a) Briefly explain why you believe your dog or cat would make the ultimate “top pet”
b) What makes your pet unique?
Only the following file extension formats can be accepted: .3g2, .3gp, .aac, .aif, .aiff, .asf, .avi, .bmp, .divx, .dv, .flv, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .m1v, .m4a, .mov, .mp3, .mp4, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv, .png, .qt, .tif, .wav, .wma, .wmv, .xvid. File size cannot exceed 20MB.
By entering, you understand your photographsand/or video will be posted online and will be subject to viewing and voting by members of the general public. Posting will not be immediate; there may be a short period of time between video submission and posting. Any photographsand/or video deemed inappropriate or unsuitable for posting, in Sponsor's sole discretion, will be disqualified and will not appear on the contest web site.
C. Contest sponsors are not responsible for late, lost, stolen, misdirected, misaddressed, incomplete, postage due or illegible entries. Sponsor is not responsible for technical or computer failures, errors or data loss of any kind, lost or unavailable Internet connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled or deleted computer or network transmissions, inability to access any Web site or on-line service, or any other error or malfunction, or late, lost, illegible or misdirected entries. Entry materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. If the judges determine, in their sole discretion, that there is any suspected or actual electronic tampering with the Contest or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Contest, the judges reserve the right to void the entries at issue and/or terminate the Contest and conduct a random drawing to award the prize among all eligible entries received as of the termination date. If the Contest is terminated due to tampering or technical difficulties prior to its expiration date, notice will be posted at . If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entrant that tampers with the operation of the Contest or website or violates the Official Rules of the Contest.

- Eligibility Requirements:
A. You must at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
B. You must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the San Francisco DMA at the time of submission. Employees of CBS 5, CW Bay Area, CBS Corporation, Hills Pet Nutrition, Cheeko B, Aussie Pet Mobile, other television and radio stations in the San Francisco market, and their affiliates, subsidiaries and advertising agencies and their immediate family members or persons living in the same household are ineligible to participate or win.
C. If you are selected as a finalist in the competition, you may be required to attend a live audition with contest judges at a time and place to be determined by KBCW. Failure or inability to attend this live audition may result in disqualification.
D. If you are selected as the Grand Prize winner, you must agree to make yourself available for a photo shoot to be scheduled by KBCW within seven days of the date you are notified of your prize.
E. Viewers are eligible to win a KBCW contest only once every sixty days. Only one winner per household is permitted in any contest. Viewers are eligible to win a prize valued at $600.00 or more only once every six months.
F. All entries become the sole property of Station and will not be returned. By entering, entrants agree to abide by these rules, and warrant and represent that their entry is their original work.
- Prizes
A. One (1) grand prize cat winner and one (1) grand prize dog winner will each receive the following: a $1000 shopping spree at a major pet supply retailer (one for winning cat and one for winning dog); a professional photoshoot of both the pets and owners and to have those photographs featured in the San Francisco Chronicle or other Bay Area publication specified by KBCW; the winners will each receive Hill's® Science Diet® pet food coupons to feed the pet listed on his/her entry free for one (1) year; the value of the coupons provided to each winner shall be based on his/her pet's size and on the average annual consumption of pets of that same size in accordance with Hill's published feeding guide (approximate retail value (ARV) for dog owner is $400 and ARV for cat owner is $120 based on the average annual consumption of a large sized dog and a medium sized cat in accordance with Hill’s published feeding guide). To redeem, coupons should be presented by the winners to their nearest Science Diet pet food dealer (veterinarian or pet food retailer). No transfer or substitution of prize permitted. All federal, state and local taxes are the responsibility of the winners. Total estimated cash value of this prize is $3000.
B. THE WINNER WILL BE REQUIRED TO CONTACT KBCW AFTER BEING NOTIFIED TO CLAIM THEIR PRIZE, AND SIGN AND RETURN AN AFFIDAVIT OF ELIGIBILITY AND RELEASE OF LIABILIITY,WITHIN FORTY-EIGHT HOURS OF NOTIFICATION OR HE/SHE WILL FORFEIT THE PRIZE AND AN ALTERNATE WINNER WILL BE SELECTED.
C. WINNERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES, AND EACH PRIZEWINNER WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE AN IRS FORM W-9.
D. All prizes or prize certificates may be picked up at the office of KBCW, 855 Battery St., San Francisco, CA94111. You must contact KBCW within 48 hours of being notified of winning, or the prize will be forfeited.
E. Contest prizes are not transferable. Prizes may not be substituted for or redeemed for cash. Station reserves the right to substitute prize of comparable value.
- Selection of Winner:
A. Decisions of contest sponsors with respect to the contest are final.
B. Judging will occur in two stages.
Phase I: Determining Finalists:
On or about Monday, June 30th 2008, a panel of judges from KBCW-TV will score each applicant on a scale of 1 to 100 points based upon the material they have uploaded and their responses to the online questionnaire. There will be two categories: one for cats and one for dogs.
In addition, contestants will receive additional points for the average number of “stars” that users of the web site have assigned to their portfolio. If a contestant receives an average of 5 “stars,” they will receive an additional 10 points; 4 “stars,” 8 points; 3 “stars,” 6 points; 2 “stars,” 4 points; 1 “star,” 2 points; and 0 “stars,” 0 additional points.
The twenty (20) entries with the most points (top 10 cats and top 10 dogs) will become finalists and all other entries will be eliminated from the competition.
Phase II: Determining the Grand Prize Winner:
Beginning Monday, July 7, 2008, at 11:59am, and concluding at 11:59am on July 20, 2008, members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite pet at Following conclusion of online voting, the 20 finalists will be assigned a score between 1 and 40 derived by the following two factors:
Judges Evaluation (30 potential points)
A second panel of judges from KBCW-TV will score each applicant on a scale of 1 to 30 points. Finalists may be required to attend a live audition with the contest judges at a date and location to be determined by KBCW. Failure or inability to attend this live audition my result in a contestant’s disqualification. Judges will assign points based on their live audition (if required) as well as the contents of their portfolio, their responses to the online questionnaire and their performance.
Internet Vote Ranking (10 potential points)
Based upon the applicant’s ranking after online votes from the public at have been tallied. The applicant(s) who receives the most votes will receive 10 points. Photos/[PB1]Videos in the 90-99 percentile will receive 9 points; 80-89 percentile, 8 points; 70-79 percentile, 7 points; 60-69 percentile, 6 points; 50-59 percentile, 5 points; 40-49 percentile, 4 points; 30-39 percentile, 3 points; 20-29 percentile, 2 points; 11-19 percentile, 1 point; and 1-9th percentile, 0 points.
The dog and cat with the most total points will be deemed the Grand Prize Winners. In the event more than one video ties for 1st place, the Grand Prize winner will be determined by a second review and vote by the panel of judges. The grand prize winners will be notified by KBCW by telephone or e-mail on or about Friday, August 1, 2008.
- Conditions:
A. Payment of all federal, state and local taxes is the sole responsibility of the winner and winners may receive an IRS Form 1099 or equivalent from Station.
B. By participating in the contest, the winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest, and to sign a publicity release, affidavit of eligibility and release of liability prior to acceptance of the prize. By accepting the prize, winners grant to Station the right to use the winner's name, voice, picture and/orlikeness for purposes of advertising and publicity in any and all media now known or hereafter invented, without further permission or additional compensation (except where prohibited by law). All expenses on receipt and use of prize are the sole responsibility of winner. Winners, by acceptance of their prizes, agree to release KBCW, CBS Corporation, their respective parents and subsidiaries, and their respective advertising, promotion and production agencies from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership or use of the prize or while preparing for, participating in, and/or traveling to any prize-related activity.
C. Contest sponsors reserve the right to make changes in the rules of the contest which will become effective upon announcement.
D. Sponsor is not responsible for any typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the contest or in the announcement of the prize.
E. No purchase necessary. The contest is void where prohibited by law.
F. Failure to comply with the contest rules may result in a contestant’s disqualification.
