Dear Parents and Carers

Year 5 Archaeologists Chase Park in Whickham has received Heritage Lottery funding to restore the windmill within the Park. Year 5 were invited down to the park to find out more about what is taking place. They were able to assist a team of archaeologists from Durham University to conduct an archaeological survey of the soil surrounding the windmill to find how the land below the grass differs across the site. The children also listened to a talk by the Whickham History Society to find out what life was like at the time the windmill was active. Finally, the children were shown how to make sour dough bread by a real baker. It was a very interesting morning for everyone, with super interest and engagement from Year 5 –well done!

Many congratulations to Eva Bewicke

After an excellent year in the Sunderland Girls Football Academy, Eva was asked to step up a whole year and trial for their new under 10s academy squad. She trialled with 30 other girls, most of them much older than her. After 3 days of intensive trials she was offered a contract to play for Sunderland and was made captain for the first game last Saturday. This is a fantastic achievement for a little girl who is only 8 years old. We are so proud of you Eva- well done!

Clover Hill office

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mrs Craig who has joined us in the Clover Hill office. She has had a wonderful first week and has made an excellent start.

Transition Week

Next week is a time for transition. Year 6 children will be attending Whickham School for 3 days and the rest of our school will spend a full day with their new teacher on Wednesday. I am sure it will be a successful and exciting start to September plans.

We welcomed Year 6 back today after their active adventures in Hexham, I hope their parents have had the opportunity to view the huge amount of fun photos posted onto our website. What an amazing time they have enjoyed - fantastic team bonding, confidence boosting and resilience building! A very special thank you must go to Mrs Holden, Mrs Hoult, Mrs Earl and Mrs Potts for giving so much of their own time to make this residential so special.

It’s now time for Year 5 to pack their suitcases as they are off on their residential to Gibside National Trust on Monday, that includes me….. I can’t wait!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Kind Regards
