STATISTICS TEST – GAMES – 100 PTS - SPRING SEMESTER – 2017

Choose any 3 of the following. For each one, TYPE an essay that adequately answers the writing prompt. 300 words minimum for EACH essay, be as thorough as possible for each prompt.

1.  Someone is going 1st in a game of Tic-Tac-Toe. Give the person detailed advice on how they should play the game so that they can have the best chance of winning. If the player is going 2nd, suggest strategies so the player can at least achieve a cat game.

2.  A friend of yours has never played the card game of Poker before. Describe in precise detail the object of the game, how the game is played, and suggest strategies so that your friend can be successful. Include how Straight Poker is different from Texas Hold ‘em.

3.  A friend of yours has never played the card game of Uno before. Describe in precise detail the object of the game, how the game is played, and suggest strategies so that your friend can be successful.

4.  Describe the difference between Casino Blackjack and Competitive Blackjack. Suggest strategies that a player could use to be successful at each game. What skills are necessary in each game to be successful?

5.  A friend of yours has never played the game of Gin Rummy before. Describe in precise detail the object of the game, how the game is played, and suggest strategies so that your friend can be successful.

6.  Discuss how the element of luck plays a role in various games. Some games are pure luck, some games have no luck, but most are somewhere in between. Cite examples of each. Also, describe whether what type of game you personally prefer i.e. how much luck do you like to have in a game.

7.  Describe the difference between strategy and skill in general and in the context of several different games. Is there such a thing as a game with skill but no strategy? Vice-versa?

8.  Describe to someone what the dice game Shut the Box is. How is it played, what is the object of the game, and suggest strategies to increase your chances of winning.

9.  Describe the how the dice game Pokzee is played. Include some strategies a player should use to achieve their highest score.

10.  A friend has never played the card game Spades before. Describe how it is played, the object of the game, and discuss strategies to increase chances of winning.
