HALF TERM HOMEWORK

Mrs Robson and I have put together a list of all the different types of questions that come up in the mental maths SATs papers.

For your homework over half term we would like you to learn how to answer the following questions. There will be a test on questions like these (they WILL NOT be exactly the same!).

Place Value:

  1. Divide 0.9 by 100
  2. Finding the smallest number
  3. Write 500,000 in words.
  4. What is 7.5 divided by 10 or divided by 100.
  5. Write in figures the number one thousand and twenty.

Number Patterns/Sequences

  1. What is the next odd number after 999?
  2. Write the multiple of 8 between 100 and 110.

Addition and Subtraction

  1. Add together 6 and 66.
  2. Take away 95 from 110
  3. Add together 9, 19 and 29
  4. Add 308 to 402
  5. What is 120 + 80?
  6. What is 100 less than 10,000?
  7. Subtract 21 from 100
  8. Add together 23 and 48
  9. Subtract 32 from 70
  10. Add together 23, 33 and 43
  11. How much must I add to £4.90 to make £6.00?
  12. What number is 34 more than 58?

Halving and Doubling

  1. What is half of £7
  2. Multiply 91 by 2
  3. What is half of 90p
  4. What is double 1.7?

Multiplication and Division

1.  Multiply 8 by 4, then add 50

2.  How many 2’s are there in 440?

3.  What is 6 X 20, divided by 4?

4.  How many 6’s are there in 36?

5.  What is 3 times 150?

6.  What is the remainder when 27 is divided by 5?

7.  What is 30 times 40?

8.  Multiply 39 by 7?

9.  Divide 90 by 3?

10.  What is 3 x 3 added to 4 x 4?

Factors and Multiples

  1. Write two factors of 24 which add to make 11

Word Problems

  1. 2m of wire cost 90p. How much will 3m of wire cost?
  2. Oranges cost 15p each. I buy 4 oranges. How much change will I get from £2?
  3. I had £1. I bought 2 cartons of drink and got 30p change. How much did 1 carton of drink cost?
  4. 1 book costs £1.95p. How much do 6 books cost?
  5. A packet of crisps costs 32p. Josh buys 3 packets. How much change does he get from £1?
  6. Four biscuits costs 20p altogether. How much do 12 biscuits cost?
  7. A fruit pie costs 55p. What is the cost of 3 fruit pies?
  8. A yoghurt costs 45p. How many yoghurts can be bought for £5?

Number sentences (simple algebra)

  1. When a number is divided by 7 the answer is 3 r4. What is the number?
  2. When m = 20 what is the value of 10 + 3m?
  3. I think of a number, subtract 10 and double the result. The answer is 44. What is my number?
  4. Six times a number is 3000. What is the number?
  5. 5 times a number is 200. What is the number?
  6. When H has the value 12- calculate 5h – 2

Ratio and Proportion

  1. In a group of 45 children, there are twice as many boys as girls. How many girls are there?

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

  1. What is 1/5 of 1000?
  2. Subtract 01. From 2
  3. What percentage is equal to 3/5?
  4. Add two and a half, three and a half and four and a half.
  5. What fraction of £2 is 20p?
  6. Add 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6
  7. What number is exactly halfway between 1.1 and 1.2?

  10. What is 20 out of 40 as a percentage?

Temperature

  1. What temperature is 10 degrees lower than 7 degrees Celsius?
  2. What temperature is 20 degrees lower than 6 degrees Celsius?

Converting Measures

  1. How many grams are there in 2.7kg?
  2. How many mm are there in 15cm?
  3. How many cm are there in half a metre?
  4. How many ml are there in 1 ¼ litres?
  5. How many grams are there in 12 kg?

Perimeter and Area

  1. The perimeter of a square is 1m. How long is each side?
  2. A rectangle measures 12cm by 4cm. What is it’s area?
  3. A rectangle measures 11cm by 20cam. What is it’s area?
  4. Calculate the perimeter or a rectangle 11m long and 4m wide.

Shape

  1. Imagine a square based pyramid. How many vertices does it have?
  2. Imagine a triangular prism. How many faces does it have?
  3. How many lines of symmetry does a square have?

Angles

  1. How many degrees is it between 12 o’clock and 3 o’clock?

These are the different types of questions that come up on the SATs mental maths papers. Try and answer these questions but also ensure that you can answer these questions if the numbers are changed.

The test after half term will be based on the methods and ideas needed to answer these questions. They WILL NOT be the exact same questions!
