Job Title:Project Officer,Cambridgeshire Walks

Salary:Grade F: £21,534 - £24,103 pro rata per annum

(dependent on relevant skills and experience)

Hours:15 hours per week – flexible working hours can be considered.

Fixed Term:Contract to 31 December2016

Base:Home based in Cambridge, with regular work outside visiting local walking groups. Occasional meetings in the Sustrans Office in Peterborough will also be required.

Purpose of Job:

The post holder will ensure all of the planned walks are run efficiently and effectively and will actively attempt to increase participation numbers. The Project Officer will be responsible for managing a team of Walk Leaders, as well as taking a lead on marketing and communications, forming partnerships with local groups, all monitoring requirements and providing a key link between Sustrans and Cambridgeshire County Council.

Sustrans has been funded by Cambridgeshire County Council to run a series of six weekly led walks and seven monthly themed walks around South Cambridgeshire. The walking groups are likely to be located in: Cottenham, Histon, Addenbrookes, East Chesterton and Abbey Wards in Cambridge City Centre.

Place in Organisation Structure:

The postholder will report to a Sustrans Project Coordinator, who is likely to be based in the Sustrans Office in Peterborough.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To ensure Walks Leaders attend and lead the led walks, as per the agreed schedule.
  2. To ensure all of our walks are operating correctly and safely e.g. to make sure there is an accurate and up to date risk assessment for each route, which has been signed off by you.
  3. To collate the data from the weekly led walks register, which will provided to you by your Walk Leaders.
  4. To take a lead on promoting the led walks programme by building relationships within each of the local communities and to attend meetings and local events where required.
  5. To take lead on monitoring and evaluating of Walking project
  6. To ensure the project operates to budget – this will include signing off monthly timesheets for your Walk Leaders.
  7. To attend monthly meetings to discuss performance with Cambridgeshire County Council.
  8. To support and comply with the organisation's Policy for the management of Health and Safety.
  9. To work in accordance with the arrangements described in the organisation's health and safety management system including any project or department specific requirements.
  10. To carry out other duties as required.

Working Conditions:

The post holder will be home based, with the Sustrans Office in Peterborough being their nearest fully functional office. The hours worked will be by mutual agreementwith the Project Coordinator, however, we will consider flexible working hours.

The post holder will be given the appropriate training and must be prepared to walk, cycle and use public transport for the majority of daily work journeys.

Person Specification:

Criteria / Essential
Qualifications, education and training / Good standard of education.
GCSEs or equivalent.
Experience / Experience of dealing with the public
Experience of running events
The ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks effectively
Skills and abilities / Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Good interpersonal, customer facing skills
A dynamic, creative and inspiring approach
Knowledge / IT literate
Other / Committed to the promotion of sustainable transport

Criteria / Desirable
Qualification, education and training / Walk leader trained (training will be provided in these aspects if not).
First aid trained (training will be provided if appropriate for role).
Experience / Experience of marketing
Experience of working in a customer facing environment
Experience of working with communities, businesses and local authorities
Experienced cyclist, walker and user of public transport
Experience of working with volunteers
Experience of delivering physical activity or behaviour change projects.
Experience of delivering projects with a range of partners from different sectors
Knowledge / Geographical knowledge of the area
An understanding of local transport, rural transport and other community issues
