Northland Preparatory Academy
(ILS) Study Hall Syllabus – Room 211
Mr. Mueller

The objective of Integrated Learning Strategies (ILS) at NPA is to give students anexcellent opportunity to complete assignments, study, work on projects, etc., outside of classin a quiet environment during the school day. With the high expectations from teachers at NPA,it sometimes results in a fair amount of work to be done outside of class. ILS is an excellent opportunity for students alleviate some of those stresses. It is important for students to remember the purpose of ILS and take full advantage of it. This class can be an immense help to you! Here are a few rules that all students in the class must follow:

-Come prepared. Have all books and supplies with you, ready to immediately start working. In the offhand chance that you don’t have work to do, you must bring a book to read. You will not be allowed to do nothing, talk with your friends, etc.

-No talking. ILS is meant for quiet, independentstudy. If a situation does arise where you absolutely need to work with another student, you must ask permission, and your request will be considered based on your work ethic to date.

-Use the whole class period. You must be working on academic work for the entire class period.

-Use of technology: Your web-accessing device can be a very valuable asset in your studies when used effectively. You must ask for permission to use your device, and state what you will be using it for. Students in good academic standing who have proven to use their time effectively in study hall will be able to use their device for independently listening to music. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT EVEN ONCE USING YOUR DEVICE FOR ANYTHING NONACADEMIC, THE PHONE WILL BE CONFISCATED, AND YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ABILITY TO USE THE DEVICE FOR THE REST OF THE SEMESTER.

-Passes: Students will be given three “I forgot it in my locker” and “bathroom” passes per semester. Once those are used up you will not be able to retrieve items from your locker for any reason. Seniors in good academic standing can request a pass to the Senior Triangle.

-

It is essential for students to understand how important it is to maintaining a structured academic environment in ILS. I commend you for deciding to dedicate a class period to focus on your academics, and I believe that this will prove to be a great resource. Please sign below to state that you have read over this syllabus and understand what is expected. Please return it by Aug. 17, 2015.
