TITLE: Dorm Parent – An Extra Duty Position FSLA STATUS: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School Diploma or GED.

2. Pass State of Alaska background check (fingerprints).

3. Valid First Aid Card

4. Valid Alaska Driver’s License; CDL (bus) preferred.

5. Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

6. Demonstrated positive speech skills (enunciation and clarity).

7. Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately.

8. Ability to work with people of various personality types (flexibility).

9. Possess and demonstrate sound emotional judgement.

10. Ability to follow and successfully complete written and oral directions.

11. Ability to observe or monitor objects and people’s behavior to determine

compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.

12. Ability to encourage and ensure open and friendly relationships with others.

13. Ability to manage time and tasks.

14. Ability to communicate using proper verbal and written conventions.

15. Ability to follow and successfully complete written and oral directions.

16. Ability to observe or monitor student behavior to determine compliance with

rules, expectations or safety standards.

17. Possess sound emotional judgment.

18. Possess effective organizational skills.

19. Knowledge of the stages of growth of youth, including social/emotional needs,

problems, concerns and other related issues.

REPORTS TO: STAR of the Northwest Principal

JOB GOAL: To assist in the supervision of students, assist, guide, monitor behavior, provide academic and social support, and interact with student residents of the STAR Magnet School. Work requires flexible hours, rapid response to immediate needs, variable work shifts and extensive group interactions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1.  Demonstrate consistent punctuality and regular attendance.

2.  Demonstrate appropriate safety precautions.

3.  Adhere to local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies, standards, codes and laws.

4.  Adhere to established district policies and procedures.

5.  Work cooperatively with other district employees, the general public, and students.

6.  Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; monitor own work to ensure quality.

7.  Assist in providing for the health and safety of all students residing in the NWABSD STAR of

Northwest Magnet School.

8.  Provide leadership and be a positive role model for all students in the STAR dorm.

9.  Contribute to positive, collegial staff relationships.

10.  Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and celebrate cultural diversity.

11.  Direct students in performance of daily tasks, chores, duties and responsibilities.

12.  Facilitate conflict resolution between students.

13.  Attend STAR staff meetings as needed or directed.

14.  Transport student residents in District owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner as needed.

15.  Provide appropriate correction and direction to students when needed.

16.  Perform other duties as assigned by the STAR Principal or designee.

17.  Nurture positive relationships with all students.

18.  Support students academically and emotionally.

19.  Participate in STAR dorm activities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the NWABSD Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board Policy.
