PBLT2 FAQ’s

1. My digital display (i.e. receiving device) reading does not match what I know to be in my tank?

Answer: Remember that the PBLT2 is a fixed range transmitter. It is does not have a scaleable 4-20 mA output. The input to your receiving device must match the range of the transducer. For example: 11.54 ft PBLT2 - the 4-20 mA input to the Precision Digital indicator must be set for 0 – 11.54 ft (4 mA = 0 ft and 20 mA = 11.54 ft).

2. Can I cut the cable on the transducer?

Answer: Yes. After the cable is cut, you will notice it is a multi-conductor cable. You will utilize only the red (positive lead) and the black (negative lead) conductors. It is very important to remember the breather tube must be terminated in a dry, moisture free environment. This will prevent moisture from entering the back side of the transducer’s diaphragm.

3. How do I mount the PBLT2?

Answer: There are several methods available. The transducer can rest on the floor of the vessel with no additional connections. A more secure and stable method would be to use the ½” NPT process connection on the rear of the unit. This connection allows you to connect rigid conduit (metal or plastic) to the transducer. In installations where overhead space is limited, flex conduit can be used to mount the transducer.

4. Will the unit work on “dirty” water or slurry applications?

Answer: Yes. The large flush stainless steel diaphragm enables the PBLT2 to be used in dirty or clean liquid applications. The flush diaphragm prevents the transducer from “clogging up” with debris or sediment.

5. What is the required maintenance on the PBLT2?

Answer: No scheduled maintenance is required. A simple periodic check of the transducer may be performed if there is concern about large sediment deposits on the bottom of the vessel.

6. Is the unit approved for hazardous area service?

Answer: The PBLTX is UL approved intrinsically safe for Class I, Div 1, Groups A, B, C, D; Class II, Div 1, Groups E, F, G and Class III, Div 1. Please note an IS barrier is required.

7. Do I require separate lightning/surge protection for the unit?

Answer: No. The PBLT2 incorporates lightning and surge protection utilizing dual arrestor technology, grounded to case, eliminating both power supply surges and lightning ground strike transients.
