Final Course Proficiency Assessment
The course proficiency assessment consists of exercises based on the material presented during the course. Follow the instructions of each exercise carefully. The assessment is worth 100 points. Read each exercise question carefully and answer each question completely.
Exercise 1 (10 points): ‘Send an Attachment’. --Completed
The last guest in the best suite at Adventure Works accidently broke the stained glass window in the suite. You must replace the window before you can accept any reservations for the suite.
- Create a new email message to the instructor at the Graphic Design Institute. The instructor’s email address
- Ask the instructor if he can design a window similar to the stained glass window that was broken. Ask the instructor how long the project will take and how much it will cost. The subject line of the email will be: COT325 PAEX1-1.
- Attach the BirdsStainedGlass.gif graphic file located in the Week 6: Documents Final Files folder on Bb.
- Send the message to the instructor
Exercise 2 (5 points): ‘Resend a Message’. --Completed
Complete Exercise 1 before starting this exercise.
- You need more that one estimate, but you don’t want to key all the information again. In the Sent Items folder, open the message you sent in Exercise 1.
- Use the Resend function to create a new message.
- Change the message so it can be sent to one classmate, the instructor and MichaelEntin at the school of Fine Art. Michael’s email is . Note:Michael’s email address does not exist so you may receive an error message stating that the message could not be delivered. Delete the error message when they arrive.
- The subject line of the email will be: COT325 PAEX2.
- Send the message.
Exercise 3 (5 points): ‘Send a message Using Stationary’. --Completed
You work for the Adventure Works resort. Mindy Martin, one of the owners, asked you to select a stationary to be used when messages are sent to guests from resort employees.
- Open a new message.
- Design an email with the Clear Day stationary theme.
- SAVE the unsent new message using the stationary as PAEX3.htm in a folder of your choice.
- Close the message without completing or sending it.
Exercise 4 (10 points): ‘Create a Signature’.--Complete
Mindy Martin was pleased with the stationary you selected for outgoing email messages. She asked you to create a signature that uses the Window image from exercise 1.
- Open a new message
- Use the formatting tools in the New Message window to create an attractive signature using the Window image of exercise 1. Insert the image and resize it to fit in the signature. Use a table to position the elements in the message. Do not display the table’s boarders.
- Cut the new signature from the message and paste it into a new signature in the Signatures and Stationary dialog box.
- Create a new message using the signature that uses the Clear Day stationary.
- The subject line of the email will be: COT325 PAEX4.
- Send an email to the instructor using the signature.
Exercise 5 (5 points): ‘Congratulations!’.--Completed
Your instructor just won a weekend for two at the Adventure Works! Prepare an email message informing the Instructor that he won the contest.
- In the Subject field, put Congratulations - COT325 PAEX5.
- In the message area write a brief message telling the instructor that he won the contest. Ask him to select any weekend in September for his visit.
- Format the text and add stationary that fits the message content.
- Mark the message as High Importance.
- Send the message to the instructor.
Exercise 6 (10 points): ‘Message Delivered’.--Completed
The weather report calls for rain tomorrow. At Adventure Works, an outdoor luncheon meeting for 20 participants must be moved to an indoor conference room. Mindy must inform the staff members responsible for delivering and setting up the speaker’s equipment and presentation materials.
- Open a new message window.
- In the Subject field, put Presentation Relocated – COT325 PAEX6.
- In the message area, write a brief message telling the instructor that the presentation will be held in the Rose Room instead of the Blue Bird Patio. Ask him to set up and test the equipment in the Rose Room by 10:00 AM.
- Mark the message as High Importance.
- Request a delivery receipt and a read receipt for the message.
- Send the message to the instructor.
Exercise 7 (10 points): ‘Press Announcement’.--Completed
The natural surroundings, luxurious facilities, and exceptional reputation have made Adventure Works a hometown favorite location for weddings. Later today, another well-known couple will send wedding invitations to a few close friends and the press. Mindy wants to provide her contact information for the press, but it will be a busy afternoon. She decides to write a message, but delay the delivery of the message until the couple announces the wedding date and the location.
- Open a new message window
- In the To field key in the instructor’s email address.
- In the Subject field, put MelloLloyd wedding- COT325 PAEX7.
- In the message area, write a brief message stating that you are confirming that the wedding will be held at Adventure Works. Enter today’s date and the current time. Provide a link to the web site at and your contact information at 800-555-1234. Set the delivery delay for 1 hour from the time you entered in the message body. (You must be able to leave your computer running and connected to the Internet until the specified delay time.)
Exercise 8 (10 points): ‘Create Contacts from Blank Contacts’--Completed
- Select three class mates and create a contact for each.
- For each contact, their Job Title field should be Software Development Team Lead 1…3 respectively.
- The email address for each contact should usiness phone number for each contact should be 123456789.
- Send a copy of each contact to the instructor. In the Subject field, put Contacts– COT325 PAEX8.
Exercise 9 (5 points): ‘Create a Distribution List’.--Completed
You send several messages to the software development team leaders each day. To simplify the task, you create a distribution list that contains the Software Development Team Leaders you selected in Exercise 8 and the instructor.
- Create the distribution list.
- Send an email notifying the class members that they are members of the distribution list.
- In the Subject field, put Distribution List – COT325 PAEX9.
- Include the instructor in the CC field.
Exercise 10 (5 points): ‘Send an Electronic Business Card’.–Completed
You wish to stay in touch with the instructor after the course ends. You decide to send your electronic business card the instructor.
- Open a new message window.
- In the Subject field, put ‘Let’s keep in Touch’ – COT325 PAEX10.
- Insert your current electronic business card.
- Send the message to the instructor.
Exercise 11 (10 points): ‘Create a One-Time Appointment’.--Completed
You have been selected to create a presentation about a new product your company will sell in the coming year. You will deliver the presentation at a company dinner on September 10th, 2008.
- Schedule the time on the calendar to prepare for the presentation. You preparation will take 1 week.
- The calendar subject is Prepare for Presentation.
- Start time is September 1st at 9:00 AM.
- Send a message to the instructor containing a screen capture of September’s calendar showing the appointment.
- In the Subject field, put Calendar 1 – COT325 PAEX11.
Exercise 12 (10 points): ‘Create a One-Time Meeting’-Completed
It’s time to launch a new project at Tailspin Toys. Gather the Software Development Team Leaders in a meeting to divide the duties.
- Create a meeting request inviting all members of the previously developed Software Development Team Leaders group.
- Until the project is complete, the leaders will meet each Wednesday beginning September 10th, 2008 at 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM to discuss project status, until the project is complete.
- In the Subject field, put Meeting – COT325 PAEX12.
- Send an email to allSoftware Development Team Leaders to invite them to the meeting.
Exercise 13 (5 points): ‘Adding an RSS Feed’.--Completed
Using one of the RSS feed search sites listed in your text, subscribe to an RSS feed that you like and forward the RSS feed item to your instructor.
When the feed is forwarded, put RSS Feed – COT325 PAEX13 in the Subject field.
