Choreography Project Requirements:

60 points total

Objective: Use the elements of choreography learned in class to choreography a dance demonstrating understanding of the elements.

Using the elements of choreography (Space, Time, Dynamics, Form), choreograph a dance that is a minimum of:

·  1 MINUTE seconds (Dance 1)

·  2:00 (Dance 2)

·  2:30 (Dance3)

·  3:00 (Dance 4)

Breakdown of points:

15pts-THE DANCE: 5 pts Knowledge, 5pts. Technique, 5pts. Expression

5pts-THE REFLECTION: A journal assignment that will be done in class

20pts-THE PRESENTATION: Presenting at least two examples of Space,Time, Dynamics, and Form

20pts-GROUP RATING: Your group members will give you a rating based on your participation, contribution, and overall attitude throughout the choreographic process.

Presentation: (20 points total- 5 points per element)

·  Group members must provide two examples of each element and provide valid evidence to solidify their claims.

·  Group presentations should be as even as possible among group members. For example, a group with four members should split the elements up evenly.

·  Groups do not need visual aids during the presentation and will be able to bring their journals to the presentation to read from.

·  Groups should be prepared to demonstrate an example if the group’s example is too general, or the group needs to demonstrate the example to show understanding.

Group rating: (20 points)

·  Students will provide a point rating of other members in their group and their contribution to the projects with a rationale providing why they are giving each person that score.

·  All group ratings will be read by the teacher only and will be evaluated for validity.

·  The teacher may read the group ratings and decide to modify them if the teacher feels the rating was not justly made.

Reflection:

·  Students will be asked to write a short, 1-2 paragraph reflection on the choreographic process. Students will be given one point for each prompt they address in their reflection.

Dance:

·  Students will be given full points for their dance before their group performs; i.e.: the dancers will all start with the full 15pt total.

·  Students will be marked down one point each time a technical error is observed by the teacher, they show no expression, or they falter in their knowledge of the dance. The ending point value is their grade for the dance.

·  Students will be graded individually for the dance, and the performance of their group members does not affect their grade in any way.

Important!

·  Please make sure two members of your group have a copy of the song you are using.

·  Please make sure you are prepared for your projects on Monday and have both your music and speakers.

·  Please talk to Mrs. Johnson if you have any issues or concerns about your group or your progress.

·  Please make sure your song is approved by Mrs. Johnson if it may have questionably inappropriate lyrics before you begin choreographing.

·  Please make sure to share the dance space with other groups. Be respectful in both the space you need and noise level.

·  Please stay in the areas assigned to you by Mrs. Johnson for the duration of class. If you need to leave your group for any reason, you must ask teacher’s permission first.
