Task 2 - Practical

1.  CheckDisk Command Line.
First use the command CHKDSK/? to find out how to run a CheckDisk that will automatically fix errors.
2.  Research and explain what the CHKDSK switches

3.  Run CHKDSK without any switches, record any errors and how much free space is available?
4.  Carry out a Disk Cleanup (Start, Programs, accessories, System tools, Disk Clean). Record how many MB’s can be saved by using the tool?

The Sysinternals Troubleshooting Utilities have been rolled up into a single Suite of tools. This file contains the individual troubleshooting tools and help files.

NTFS info - Use NTFS Info to see detailed information about NTFS

volumes, including the size and location of the Master File Table (MFT)

and MFT-zone, as well as the sizes of the NTFS meta-data files.

AccessChk - This tool shows you the accesses the user or group you

specify has to files, Registry keys or Windows services.

Disk Partition tools

There are a variety of Disk partition/Format tools available; for the purpose of the unit we will be utilizing the following tools:

·  G-Parted

·  Partition Magic

·  Microsoft Disk management (Embedded into the O/S)

G Parted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/)

The GParted application is the GNOME partition editor for creating, reorganizing, and deleting disk partitions. GParted is developed on GNU/Linux. It can be used on other operating systems, such as Windows, by booting from media containing GParted Live.
GParted is free and open source software available under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
