WEBSITE: Navigate to my website. I teach Science (Mechelle Vindiola). This is always the best place for info.

.

You should also check the board outside my room. I post meet entries here, times to report for meets and other crucial information.

E-MAIL:

Any other questions that aren’t answered on my website, please e-mail me at

TRYOUTS:

Tryouts will be held Monday, April 7 and Wednesday April 9, 2014. (If we finish timing on Monday the Wednesday practice may be cancelled)

PRACTICES:

The first practice will be Wednesday, April 14, 2012 at 7:00 am at the Klein Collins High School Pool.)

Beginning the week of April 14 we will resume our normal practice schedule. ..Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7:00 am – 8:00 am at the Klein Collins Pool.

This means swimmers should be on deck-READY TO STRETCH at 7:00am sharp. Practices will conclude at 8:00 am. We will walk across the Klein Collins parking lot and change in the Schindewolf locker rooms. Swimmers will have plenty of time to change and get ready before school. Swimmers are under no circumstances allowed to wander the halls after they are dressed. The same rules apply to them as the rest of the school. Change, get ready and wait in the cafeteria.

If a swimmer misses more than one practice in a 2 week period, I may pull them from the next meet. Please e-mail me if you are sick or have an extenuating circumstance and I will work with you.

SUITS

Team caps will be provided. Caps are required for anyone with long hair. NO OTHER CAPS are allowed! This is HUGE- Wearing another cap can result in disqualification.

Schindewolf does NOT provide swim suits. We do have a recommended team suit. The suits can be purchased at Lane 4 Swim Shops. Please tell them you are with Schindewolf. Be sure you tell them you are from Schindewolf!

Swim shops of the Southwest is located on Kuykendahl in the shopping center next to Windrose

If you choose not to purchase the team suit- You may wear any appropriate swim suit.

GIRLS: NO 2 PIECE SUITS AT ALL (even tankinis)

BOYS: You do NOT have to wear jammers but remember if you wear regular short style “trunks” you will be slower in the water.

NO FAST SKINS OR LONG SUITS PLEASE

GOGGLES: This is a swimmer preference- Most kids prefer some type of goggle. Look for one where the eyepiece is a solid piece. (Avoid the kind where there is black rubber att to the eyepiece-they can leak)

T-SHIRTS

I will be ordering T-Shirts Monday, April 14. The cost is 10.00. Orders MUST be in WITH MONEY by April 14. I will NOT take late orders or order extra T-shirts so be sure you send your money by then!

MEETS

Meets are scheduled on Thursday evenings. Middle school swim meets run VERY FAST. (Especially if you are used to summer league or year round meets) Remember- as opposed to a 6&U, 7/8, 9/10 etc for each event- there is only 1 boy event and 1 female event for each race. They are almost always over by 7:30 or 8:00 (District is the exception- it will run until 10:30)

We will leave for meets immediately after school. On meet days, kids will need to bring everything with them to school. (Suit, goggles, towel, SNACK etc.)

Transportation is provided to away meets. It is the parent responsibility to pick their child up or make arrangements for pick up!

I do recommend you send your kids with a snack on meet days! (Gatorade/Fruit/pretzels etc.-Nothing too sugary or too heavy)

MEET PROCEDURES;

Middle school swim meets are a little different than summer league meets. I will enter all my swimmers in their events prior to the meet. THERE IS NO HEAT SHEET AND NO READY BENCH!

I will post meet entries outside my room the day before the meet. Most swimmers write their event numbers on their arm in sharpie the day of the meet.

Once we arrive at the meet, the host high school coach will “seed” the swimmers into their heat and lane. Heat/Lane assignments will be posted at the pool after warm-ups. Swimmers are responsible for getting this information.

Swimmers MUST stay alert for their events. They should know at all times what event is in the water and what event number they are swimming. DO NOT RELY ON ME FOR THIS INFO ONCE THE MEET STARTS! This requires a lot more responsibility than a summer league meet. Schindewolf has exceptionally responsible, clean and well-behaved swimmers and I am always proud of our conduct.

I will appoint an area as the “T-Wolf team spot” T-Wolves should sit together in this spot on deck in case I need them for a relay. Swimmers are NOT allowed to sit in the stands with their parents NOR are parents allowed to sit on deck in the “team area” with their child.

Swim meets require a great number of parent volunteers. I will need parents for a variety of things. I will have sign ups available at the parent meeting.

ENTRIES

Events:

50 Free 100 Free 200 Free

100 IM 200 IM

100 Breast

100 Back

50 Fly

4 X 100 Free Relay 4 X 50 Free Relay 4 X 50 Medley Relay

There are unlimited entries in 50 Free. Every other event is limited to 8 swimmers from each school.

Individual events are limited as follows:

Each swimmer may only swim 4 events and no more than 2 individual events. So they are able to swim 2 individual AND 2 relays OR 1 individual and 3 relays.

Every swimmer will swim AT LEAST one event. Ability to swim in the other events will be based on speed and performance in practice each week. I try to give each person at least one shot at something other than 50 free.

Relay spots are always awarded based on fastest times. We swim an A and a B relay for each event.

STROKE REQUESTS:

I have a binder in my room with dividers for each meet. I allow swimmers to request certain strokes by placing their name and wishes in this book. I try and honor at least one of the stroke requests each week.

NO STROKE REQUESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR DISTRICT.
