A JOINT RESOLUTION designating Kentucky Highway 640 in Metcalfe County "The Kentucky Headhunters Band Highway".
WHEREAS, The Kentucky Headhunters are an American country rock band; and
WHEREAS, The Kentucky Headhunters were founded in 1968 as Itchy Brother, which consisted of brothers Richard Young and Fred Young, along with Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney; and
WHEREAS, Itchy Brother performed together until 1982, with James Harrison replacing Greg Martin from 1973 to 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Young brothers, Greg Martin, Ricky Lee Phelps, and Doug Phelps began performing as The Kentucky Headhunters in 1986; and
WHEREAS, with the release of its 1989 debut album "Pickin' on Nashville," the band charted four consecutive Top 40 country singles; and
WHEREAS, The Kentucky Headhunters have released seven studio albums, two compilations, and twenty singles, of which the highest-peaking is a cover of the Don Gibson song "Oh Lonesome Me," which the band took to number eight in 1990; and
WHEREAS, the band has won three Country Music Association awards, an Academy of Country Music Award, and a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, won in 1990 for "Pickin' on Nashville." In addition, it earned a double-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping two million copies in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Kentucky Headhunters will be inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in April 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Kentucky Headhunters continue to perform and have made the Commonwealth and Metcalfe County proud with their many accomplishments and significant contributions to the music industry;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate Kentucky Highway 640 in Metcalfe County "The Kentucky Headhunters Band Highway," and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation, including a sign in the town of Wisdom.
