CONCERT OF CONTRASTS FOR KENT COUNTY YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Kent County Youth Orchestra will perform works by Sibelius, Grieg and Vaughan Williams in a concert which will show off all the sections of the orchestra this Easter.

Kenneth Woods will conduct the orchestra in performances of En Saga Op.9 by Sibelius, Peer Gynt: Incidental Music to Ibsen’s Play by Grieg, and Symphony No.4 in F minor by Vaughan Williams.

Tickets for the concert at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 19 at Mote Hall, Maidstone Leisure Centre are £16, £14 and £6 for students and are available from the box office on 01622 358402.

Kent Music chief executive Peter Bolton said: “We have a wonderful cohort of players in the orchestra this year and this gives us the confidence to programme pieces such as Vaughan Williams’ mighty, brass-laden fourth symphony in huge contrast to Grieg’s delicate portrayal of morning in Peer Gynt.

“Last year’s 50th anniversary celebrations also gave us the opportunity to launch the Friends of KCYO who are already supporting the work of the orchestra as it embarks on its next half century. Their support helps the orchestra engage the best conductors, soloists and tutors, while bursaries are provided for young musicians from families on low incomes, ensuring that entry to KCYO and its feeder ensembles is open to all.”

There are three levels at which Friends of KCYO can contribute: Overture (£50), Concerto (£150) and Symphony (£250) each of which entitles the Friend to a range of benefits.

UK taxpayers can claim Gift Aid on donations, meaning even more goes to help KCYO. For details of how to become a Friend of KCYO visit www.kent-music.com, email or call 01622 358402.
