How to Create your MSU Educational Administration Working Portfolio
in LiveText
- Open your LiveText account.
- Click the ‘Create’ tab in the middle of the page and choose ‘Students - Graduate’ from the pull down folder menu.
- From the pull down menu beside ‘Choose a Template,’ choose MSU Educational Administration Working Portfolio.
- The outline for the working portfolio appears in yellow on the right.
- In the Title box, type the name of the template with your name at the end, e.g., MSU Educational Administration Working Portfolio - Jane Doe. (A description is optional.)
- Click the Create Document button.
- Congratulations! You have just created your Working Portfolio! [Notice, it even says it was created by you.]
- You could start working in your portfolio now. However, in order to know where to find your document when you open your account, click the ‘MyDesk’ tab at the top left of your screen.
- Your document is shown on your main page under the general heading, ‘My Work.’ Notice it will always tell you the type (portfolio) and when it was created and last modified. (The times are shown today, but will change to dates tomorrow.)
- To open the document, click on its name.
How to Add Documents to your Working Portfolio
- Go to any section that requests you to add a document.
- To add a document to this section, click ‘edit’ on the far right of the section.
- [Note: Anytime a red box appears on the right of the screen that says ‘Loading Editor…,’ wait until it disappears before proceeding. If it stays over 30 seconds, click the refresh icon at the top of the screen to get unstuck.]
- To type something or copy and paste into the message box, you may want to highlight and delete anything already there. After inserting your work, click the ‘Finish’ button on the upper right of the page. Your writing is now in that section.
- To attach a document instead of pasting or typing, you go to the same editing page by clicking ‘edit’ on the right of the section.
- Then click the word ‘edit’ beside the paper clip and the word ‘Attachments’ at the bottom of the page to find your document and attach it. (Your document may be located on your desktop, hard drive orstorage disk of some kind.) In the box that opens, click Browse to find the document, and then Attach (may take a few seconds). [Notice the word ‘remove’ beside your document name in the center of the box. This is the way to delete an attached document if you need to do so.] Then click Finish. After the box closes and you see the title of your document beside 'Attachments' at the bottom of the page, click the'Finish' button at the top right.
- When you are taken back to the main page, you should see the title of your attachment in this section.
- Congratulations! You have now added a document to your working portfolio.
- [Note: If you click ‘edit’ beside the ‘Image’ box, you can add a picture. However, you can only add one item. The attachment editing, on the other hand, will allow more than one item to be attached.]
How to ‘Submit your Working Portfolio to your Instructor for Review and/or Evaluation
After your assigned document is attached, you can submit your working portfolio to your instructor (called ‘Reviewer’) for review and/or evaluation. [The entire portfolio will be sent, but the instructor should know in which section to look for your assigned work.]
- From your open working portfolio, click ‘Submit for Review’ at the top.
- In the box that opens, you can type in only one person’s name at a time. [Only three letters are necessary to begin a search.] Wait a few seconds while it searches. [A ‘Loading: Please Wait’ sign will appear.] It will give you one or more choices of names below the box. Choose the appropriate name by clicking on it. If you want to add another person, add a comma and type another name. It will search for this one and give you choices at the bottom. Again, click on the appropriate name and it will be added to the box. When you have all the ones you are sending it to, click ‘Send.’ Your reviewer name(s) will appear below ‘Reviewers.’ [You can use the ‘X’ in the upper right of the small box to close this extra window.]
- If you want to send your portfolio to someone to view only or to someone to edit, use the ‘Share’ tab instead of ‘Submit for Review.’ There are separate boxes for viewers and editors. Add names in the same way as for reviewers.
- If you click the 'My Desk' tab on the upper left and then click ‘Reviews’ in the left column of your main page, you will be able to see a list of this and all documents you have sent to instructors for review. [It the document doesn’t show, click the ‘Sent for Review’ tab at the top.]
