U/G / Tourism and Heritage Student Paper Competition / Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) / Student papers should entail original research on the themes of "tourism" and/or "heritage" broadly defined, including topics such as heritage, archaeology and tourism, ecotourism, and cultural resource management. / The competition involves a two-step process. Step one involves the solicitation and selection of expanded paper abstracts (of 500 words or less; saved as a Word document) for the organized session. Abstracts must be submitted by the SEPTEMBER 15th deadline to the SfAA Office (). After review by a panel of judges, students selected for participation in the session will then submit full papers for judging in December. / Top papers will be selected for inclusion in an organized session at the SfAA Annual Meetings, and an award of $500 will be presented to the best paper in the session. Gilman International Scholarship Program / Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Dept. of State / Offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad.The program aims to encourage students to choose non-traditional study and intern destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The program aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in education abroad, including, but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. / October 6 for spring/summer programs, March 3 for fall programs / Over 2,700 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year. G / Peter K. New Award / Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) / The award will be given to the best paper which reports on an applied research project in the social/behavioral sciences. The research question should be in the domain of health care or human services (broadly construed).To be eligible, the manuscript should report on research that in large measure has not been previously published. The competition will be limited to manuscripts that have a single author; multiple-authored papers will not be eligible.The winner of the Competition must be available to attend the annual meeting of the Society and present the paper. The winner is also expected to submit the paper to our journal, Human Organization, for review and possible publication. Students who have previously won either first or second place in the Peter K. New Competition are not eligible in subsequent years. / December 31 / The first place winner of the Competition will receive a cash prize of $3,000 as well as $350 to partially offset the cost of transportation and lodging at the annual meeting of the Society. In addition, the winner receives an engraved Baccarat crystal trophy.
