NOVEMBER 26TH LAURA POKOCKY

DECEMBER 3RD PETER CASSIDY

Dear Friends in

Christ Jesus,

Today the Holy Catholic Church celebrates the feast of ‘Christ the King’. The King of Kings was born like one among us and experienced our humanness and knows our challenges and weaknesses. He loves us all with His unconditional love and judges with unlimited compassion. On the day of Judgement, He will welcome all to enter into His kingdom of love and kindness. He will give us all eternal reward to be with Him forever. We are all called in a special way to experience His countless blessings in our brothers and sisters and thus enter into His kingdom of light. So let us extend ourselves to others who are in need. God bless you all. Fr. Peter

SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

“I believe in Christ like I believe in the Sun. Not because, I can see it; but by it, I can see everything else”.

SAINT’S CORNER

SAINT ANDREW (November 30th )

Andrew came from Bethsaida in Galilee. A disciple of John the Baptist, He was presented at Jesus’baptism. When John started, “Behold the Lamb of God”, Andrew understood and followed Jesus. Going to his brother Simon Peter, Andrew told him that he had found the Messiah. It is uncertain where Andrew preached or where he died, but ancient tradition associates him with Greece. Another tradition links him with Scotland. He is a patron saint of Scotland and Russia, of the Greek Church and of the fishing industry.

A GENTLE REMINDER…

From next week onwards, we use our new Sunday Missal. God bless you all.

O most awe-inspiring King, we bow before You and pray;

May Your Reign, Your Kingdom, be recognized on earth. Amen.

ADVENT: A TIME OF PREPARATION

In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation, extending over four Sundays, before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, “to come to”, and refers to the coming of Christ. This refers, first of all, to our celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas; but second, to the coming of Christ in our lives through grace and the Sacrament of Holy Communion; and finally, to His second coming at the end of time. Our preparations, therefore, should have all three comings in mind. We need to prepare our souls to receive Christ worthily. So let us prepare to celebrate the First Sunday of Advent next Sunday.

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLICCHURCH

What does it mean to say that Jesus ascended into Heaven? With Jesus, one of us has arrived home with God and remains there forever. In His Son, God is close to all of us in a human way. Moreover, Jesus says in the Gospel of John, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself” (Jn 12:32).

QUOTES FROM ST. TERESA OF AVILA

There are more tears shed over answered prayers than over unanswered prayers.

Be gentle to all and stern with yourself.

Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul.

The feeling remains that God is on the journey, too.

To have courage for whatever comes in life – everything lies in that.

To reach something good it is very useful to have gone astray, and thus acquire experience.

For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.

I do not fear Satan half so much as I fear those who fear him.

We can only learn to know ourselves and do what we can – namely, surrender our will and fulfill God’s will in us.

I know the power obedience has of making things easy which seem impossible.
