BWP Children's Service Coordinator: Job Description

Salary:£24,500(pro rata)

Location:Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire

Hours:22 per week

Accountable to:Business and Fundraising Manager

Main Responsibilities of the post

The overarching purpose is to support children and young people affected by domestic abuse. More specifically, the post holder will:

●Help develop new services within Broxtowe Women’s Project for children affected by domestic abuse

●Deliver services on a group and 1:1 basis

●Work with partners and other stakeholders including giving presentations and providing support to other organisations

●Provide help and support to team members including volunteers.

●Raise awareness of domestic abuse and the impact it has on children and young people

●The post holder will be required to respect confidentiality at all times.

Specific Duties

  1. Share responsibility with the children’s worker and outreach support staff for responding to third party and client referrals and for responding to client and professional enquiries by email, phone or text as appropriate.
  2. Conduct 1:1 assessment meetings with children and young people with further follow up meetings as required
  3. 1-1 supportsessions for young people and their mothers to talk about their experiences of abuse
  4. Group work with 11-17 year olds and/or 4 – 11 year olds to improve their understanding of domestic/sexual violence and their ability to communicate their feelings and experiences of abuse
  5. Advocate for children and young people’s views and needs within their families, schools and with other agencies as appropriate
  6. To advocate and campaign for women and children experiencing domestic abuse in order to improve understanding and awareness of the issues.
  7. Refer clients to other agencies as needed.
  8. Ensure that children and young people are supported through any transitions providing a safe space for the expression of feelings
  9. To develop and maintain good relationships with referring organisations, schools and other agencies with which the children have contact. To attend case conferences and make appropriate reports
  10. To identify and act on Child Protection issues following the Safeguarding Policy
  11. To take responsibility for personal safety adhering to the lone working policy
  12. To keep appropriate records relating to children and young people
  13. To collect and input relevant data needed for monitoring purposes

General

  1. The post-holder will be committed to BWP’s mission and values and will be expected to work in line with BWP’s policies and in a sensitive, flexible and non-judgmental way to promote the empowerment of women and their children.
  2. To ensure that the specific requirements and the ethos of BWP’s Equality and Diversity Policy are complied with and that the organisation works within a framework that is anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive and in line with the aims and objectives of the Women’s Aid Federation.
  3. To undertake appropriate in-service training and maintain an overview of relevant local and national developments in the domestic abuse field.
  4. To undertake regular supervision sessions with Business and Fundraising Manager, or other delegated member of the management committee, to ensure that BWP is meeting its defined targets.
  5. To represent and promote BWP at meetings, conferences and other events
  6. To identify, initiate and support fundraising opportunities
  7. To undertake all other reasonable duties as required by the Business and Fundraising Manager or Board of Trustees in furtherance of the main objectives of the post.
