Participants need an updated physical AND Family ID sign up approved by the school or they are NOT ELIGIBLE to tryout.

Please bring the information sheet to the first practice your daughter attends. They cannot practice without it.

Hamburg Cheerleading Information Sheet

What should I Expect?

o  Choosing to participate in this cheerleading program is a full time commitment. Football Season starts in August and ends in November. Tryouts will take place in November for Basketball Season. All practices, games, events and camp are mandatory.

o  Cheerleading is a team sport. When a person is absent, it affects the entire squad. Missing two or more practices (a season), any games or events will result in punishment/removal from the team at the coaches’ discretion. Outside commitments (sports, jobs, activities) are not excuses for missing games/practices. Only one sport allowed a season.

o  Hamburg Cheerleaders understand that they represent their student body, themselves, and their coaches at all times, on or off the field. They understand that their behavior is to be respectable and a positive representation of a young adult in public, online, and at school. Hamburg Cheerleaders have read, understood, and will follow the HHS Cheerleading Handbook.

o  Mandatory Athlete Meeting: May 23rd HS Auditorium 5:45pm.

o  Mandatory Parent Meeting : June 27th at the HS 6:00pm

o  Spring Training: Sundays until June 4th At Buffalo Envy 7.00/athlete

o  Selective Classification: Any athlete going into 7th or 8th grade that is eligible for a JV position needs to pass the selective classification test. This is in the beginning of August.

PRACTICES

o  Workouts for the Fall Season will begin on Thursday, July 6th. These practices will be held Outside of MS on Howe Field. These workouts are not mandatory until the week of August 14th. However, during these workouts we will be focusing on necessary skills to be a cheerleader. Participating on a regular basis will aide in the preparation and the polishing of skills needed to make the team.

o  Summer Practice:

o  Modified: Tuesday 9-11 Thursday 6-8

o  JV/Varsity: Tuesday Thursday 9-11

o  Mandatory Tryouts and Practices begin on August 14 (JV/Varsity) August 17 (Mod). Please try your best to plan any family vacations BEFORE August 14th. **Any misses after the mandatory date will count towards the 2 allotted misses for the fall season.

o  During the School Year Practices: These will most likely stay…but a full calendar will be handed out at the first practice AFTER tryouts.

o  Modified: Monday and Wednesday 6:30-8:30 Hamburg Middle School Sunday 10:00-11:00 Buffalo Envy (7.00/time) (TUMBLING TBD)

o  JV: Tuesday Thursday 5:30-7:30 Tumbling Sunday 12:30-1:30 Buffalo Envy(7.00/time) (TUMBLING TBD)

o  Varsity: Tuesday and Thursday (6:30-8:30) Tumbling Sunday 12:30-1:30 Buffalo Envy(7.00/time) (TUMBLING TBD)

CAMP (JV and Varsity ONLY)

We are going back to Bryn Mawr!!!!! We will be going to camp August 21-24. Camp is MANDATORY.

Modified camp is a home camp September 9-10.

How Does It Work?

Tryout Process and Procedures

In Order to try out:

o  Candidate must turn in information sheet (attached to the back of this packet) to coaches by FIRST workout. YOUR PURPLE FORM MUST BE HANDED INTO THE NURSE AND YOU MUST HAVE AN UPDATED PHYSICAL ON FILE WITH THE SCHOOL… NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! The school will be conducting athletic physicals before the school year is over, if you are unsure if you are due CHECK WITH THE NURSE. BE proactive….you cannot practice OR tryout without a physical or Family ID approval.

o  Candidate must be in good academic standing. Academic Eligibility: In all courses the passing average must be at least 65% to receive credit for the course. *Cheerleaders need to maintain academic eligibility to participate. We request copies of the girls’ report cards after each quarter. Teacher recommendations have also been sent out to teachers in the middle school and high school.

o  Tryouts

o  JV/Varsity Tryouts are August 14-15 9-12 HM Gym

o  Modified Tryouts are August17-18 8-10 HM Gym

Day one:

o  Candidates will learn the material needed for tryouts.

o  There will be stations set up so all the material needed to know for the tryout is taught.

o  Coaches will pull individuals over to stunt and tumble separately.

Tryouts:

o  Candidates will sign up in groups to tryout

o  Everyone needs to arrive 15 minutes before tryouts start in the MS Gym. The gym will be split up into two sections. One side will be the holding side and the other will be the tryout side.

o  There will be a panel of judges. Candidates will come in when it is their turn and complete their tryout. When they are done, they may leave.

o  The Modified, JV and Varsity Teams will be announced on the Hamburg website by 4:00 on tryout day. Please follow these directions. 1. Go to the district website www.hamburgschools.org. 2. Click on Athletics on the top options bar. 3. Click on Athletics Directory on the side options bar 4. Click on (Modified, JV or Varsity) Cheerleading. 5. Click on Roster. **Be sure to check all team lists.

Physical Appearance at Tryouts:

o  Day One: any colored t-shirt and cheer shorts (No tank tops, tight fitted shirts, or jean shorts) and athletic sneakers.

o  Day two: Tryout: any combination of purple, black, silver, and white.

o  Your hair must be up and out of your face in a neat ponytail. You may wear a bow!

o  You must remove ALL jewelry (including all piercings) or you may not participate. No exceptions and no bandaids.

What Happens If I Make It?

o  If you should make the team, there will be an informational meeting for JV and Varsity before practice on Wednesday, August 16th at 9:00 at Howe Field. ** Your camp money will be due that day! No exceptions as we have to pay for camp/bus/clothes BEFORE we go. The camp total for JV/Varsity is $400.00. We accept Cash or Check. Please make checks out to Hamburg High School

o  If you should make the team, there will be an informational meeting for Modified before practice on Tuesday, August 22md at 9:00 at Howe Field. ** Your camp money will be due that day! No exceptions as we have to pay for camp/clothes BEFORE we go. The camp total for a Modified is $200.00. We accept Cash or Check. Please make checks out to Hamburg High School

o  ALL CHEERLEADERS MUST ATTEND THIS MEETING

o  We will discuss school schedule, games, camp, fundraising, and captain selections.

Fundraisers (JV/Varsity ONLY)

o  August 5th Can and Bottle Drive

o  Car Washes (dates TBD)

o  Pancake Breakfast (August 19th -for anyone that makes the team)

PAYMENTS

JV/Varsity: If your child should make the JV or Varsity team, a payment of will be due the first practice after tryouts for camp. A payment schedule will be given out by the first week of workouts this summer. Please have payments in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Checks should be made out to Hamburg High School. Approximate payment totals are listed on the next page.

Game Schedule (once a real game schedule comes out we will update this information)

Varsity: 9/1, 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29 (homecoming, senior night) 10/6, 10/13 (post season is TBD)

JV: 9/2, 9/7, 9/16, 9/21, 9/29(homecoming) 10/5, 10/12 (Juniors 9/15, 9/22)

Modified: Home games only….schedule TBD *Homecoming 9/29

Games are mandatory please refrain from making any weekend plans so you are able to attend games. We travel to away games during the football season

A calendar will be provided for the whole season once practice dates and games are solidified by the district. This will be given to the cheerleaders, as well as, posted on our website.
