The Workers’ Compensation Department, located in Fullerton, California, has an opening for a Manager.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Manages the activities of the Southern California workers compensation claims department to ensure timely and accurate claim set up, investigation, delivery of benefits to the injured workers, claims reserving, cost management strategies, identification and recovery of subrogation, and claim resolution. Manages staff and processes to comply with all the jurisdictional laws, rules and regulations. Establishes and manages procedures to comply with company policies and procedures. Manages staffing and organizational structure adequacy and provides effective training to mitigate the cost of claims. Provides primary technical overview of branch workers compensation operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Develop and implement division Workers’ Compensation processes and procedures in compliance with corporate and company policies
• Determine and delegate claims settlement and reserve authority
• Provide technical support and education to the Department staff and other customers in the Division
• Track, monitor and supervise special projects
• Interact with Corporate Risk Management Accounting in administration of the program
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Education Level:
• BA/BS Degree or equivalent work experience, • IEA, SIP required, • ARM preferred
Experience Level:
• 5-10 years claims administration experience, • 5 years claims management experience
Skills and Experiences:
• Current on continuing education units per Jurisdictional requirements for licensure
• Extensive knowledge of legal and medical terminology
• Extensive knowledge of hearing and trial process and procedures
• Extensive communication skills, including speaking and training
• Excellent persuasion and interactive skills in addressing interdepartmental Workers’ Compensation issues
• Extensive knowledge of utilization of Risk Management Information Systems
• Full understanding and application of reserving practices
• Solid working knowledge of applicable state claim laws, rules and regulations
• Working knowledge of regulatory agencies; OSHA, Health Department, police agencies, etc.
• Strong negotiating skills prior professional negotiation training preferred
• Broad organizational skills, including the development of workflow and reengineering analysis
• Acute financial analytical skills, including working knowledge of present value analysis
• Ability to work with retail and manufacturing management on Workers’ Compensation issues
• Proven leadership skills
• Demonstrated experience in teambuilding
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
• Work may be performed in a temperature-controlled environment
• Must sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time
• May spend long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
• May use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
• Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
• Workday is fast paced, some evening and weekend work may be required
