Job purpose:
To lead a small team of staff in providing high quality childcare and planned activities appropriate to the age and development of the children in the Nursery. To maintain a safe, secure and caring environment for all children. Take an active role within the senior management team.
Duties:
  1. Manage the base room team in providing a friendly, caring and relaxing environment in order to encourage and develop children in our care. Ensuring the EYFS is followed. Responsible for ensuring the base room is safe, clean and tidy.

  1. Responsible for the safe and efficient running of the Nursery in the absence of the Childcare Services Manager and Deputy Manager.Prepare and be involved with inspections carried out by the OFSTED team.

  1. Ensure all daily routines are adhered to, records/assessments are kept up to date and achieved in accordance with OFSTED regulations.

  1. To ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to and implemented in the Nursery.

  1. Constantly liaise with Room Leaders. Give advice, guidance and support to all staff. Supervise staff and students in training to gain further childcare and education qualifications and maintain a proactive, professional team.
  2. Carry out the staff training co-ordinator role, monitoring this budget and ensuring all staff have adequate training.

  1. Responsible for maintaining requisite staff levels, arranging supply cover as deemed necessary.

  1. To work within and maintain the context of the whole Nursery team and as a member of the University community.

  1. Support staff with planning and carrying out activities appropriate to the age and development of the babies/children, ensuring they meet with the Early Years Foundation Stage. Ensure assessments/evaluations are regularly completed.

  1. Conduct monthly individual staff observations in base rooms to support staff development. Conduct regular 1:1’s. Undertake staff SDPR’s (Staff Development and Performance Reviews) annually.

  1. Ensure assessments/evaluations are regularly completed.

  1. To oversee an effective key person system. .

  1. Conduct interviews alongside the Childcare Services Manager. Carry out room inductions with new employees/students.

  1. To liaise with other Room Leaders to provide smooth transitions for children.

  1. To communicate with parents and other visitors in a calm, friendly and efficient manner.

  1. Organise parent/key person meetings and base room staff meetings.

  1. To ensure your specific duties regarding Health and Safety and fire procedures are understood and actioned.

  1. To attend management meetings.

  1. To attend any training courses/briefing meetings within/outside working hours as deemed necessary.

  1. Support the Childcare Services Manager with opening and closing of the Nursery building.

  1. To carry out any other duties as requested by the Childcare Services Manager.

  1. Take reasonable care of yourself and others and to comply with the University of Bath Health and Safety rules.

Experience/Knowledge
Significant post-qualification experience in a day care setting, working with children 6 months to 2 years
Significant experience of fulfilling a supervisory role within a day care setting, working with children aged 6 months to 2 years.
Expert knowledge in the provision of high quality care to children aged 6 months to 2 years
Expert knowledge of Ofsted requirements for the provision of safe care to children aged 6 months to 2 years
Knowledge of health & safety requirements for the environment in which children aged 6 months to 5 years are cared for / X
