Senior School Course Changes
Changing your pattern of study is something that needs to be considered carefully and each of the following steps must be followed.
STEP 1- Fill in the details in section A including the reason for the proposed course change.
STEP 2- Complete section B – the proposed course structure.You will need to know what you subjects are categorised as. [BED Board Endorsed Course; BDC Board Developed Course; CEC Content Endorsed Course; or VET course - this information can found in your Preliminary Subject selection booklet or on the Board of Studies website using the HSC Course Description search].
If you are discontinuing a subject you must complete the additional goal setting and study plan overleaf to demonstrate HOW you will use this change to improve your results.
STEP 3-Meet with the Careers Adviser to discuss whether the proposed course structure will impact on post school requirements or plans. Careers Adviser will sign paperwork.
STEP 4-Meet with one of the Deputy Principals to schedule an appointment time for an interview with parents and to also ensure that the proposed pattern of study will meet HSC and BOSTES requirements.
STEP 5- Attend interview, Parents and DP to sign paperwork
STEP 6- Complete Section C
STEP 7- Return completed paperwork to the Administration office.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF THE HSC
To qualify for the Higher School Certificate students must satisfactorily complete a Preliminary pattern of study comprising at least 12 units and an HSC pattern of study comprising at least 10 units. Both patterns must include:
- at least six units from Board Developed Courses;
- at least two units of a Board Developed Course in English (English Studies Content Endorsed Course satisfies the pattern of study English requirement);
- at least three courses of two units value or greater (either Board Developed or Board Endorsed Courses); and
- at least four subjects.
To satisfy pattern of study requirements for the Higher School Certificate a student may count a maximum of six units from courses in Science in each study pattern.
