Adapted Curriculum Licensure Plus Project (ACLP)

The purpose of the UNC Charlotte Adapted Curriculum Licensure Plus (ACLP) Project is to increase the number of teachers licensed to teach students with severe disabilities. The grant, funded by the U. S. Department of Education, is funded primarily to support people who are coming back to school to get the Graduate Certificate in Special Education for Adapted Curriculum Licensure (Option A). The Graduate Certificate for Adapted Curriculum Licensure program is a 27 credit hour program for people who have already earned a bachelor's degree, but did not earn a teaching license. There are some additional options available through this funding to add value to your license or degree. Descriptions of these options are below:
Option A: Graduate Certificate for Adapted Curriculum (AC) Licensure: Tuition support for individuals with a bachelor's degree but not a teaching license, can enroll in the 27 credit hour program for Adapted Curriculum Teacher Licensure. All courses are available online.
Option B: Graduate Certificate for AC Licensure PLUS the ASD Graduate Certificate: If, while you are completing course work for the AC licensure, you also want to gain knowledge and skills in meeting the needs of students with ASD, the ACLP Project can provide tuition support for courses in the ASD Graduate Certificate Program. All courses are available online.

Option C: AC Licensure PLUS TESL/Spanish Language Coursework: If, while you are completing course work for the AC licensure, you also want to gain knowledge and skills in meeting the needs of students with severe disabilities who are themselves Spanish speaking or whose family members are Spanish speaking, the ACLP Project can provide tuition support for up to 6 credit hours of course work in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and/or Spanish language course work.
Option D: Masters Degrees:

·  MAT degree: If you have an undergraduate degree and want a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree for Special Education - Adapted Curriculum, the ACLP Project can offer tuition support. Courses are available online or on campus.

Ed. with specialization in Adapted Curriculum (AC) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders or (ASD) or English as a Second Language (ESL), the ACLP Project can provide tuition support. Some M.Ed. courses are ONLY available ON-CAMPUS.

For More Information:

If you are interested in any of the above options, contact Dr. Steven Eddy, ACLP project coordinator for an ACLP Project Stipend Application Form. His email is .
To receive tuition support for any of the options above, the US Department of Education requires that you agree to work in special education with students with severe disabilities. Details on terms of this "service obligation" are included in the Stipend Application Form.
We look forward to hearing from individuals who are interested in teaching students with the most significant needs in North Carolina or states with reciprocal licensure agreements.
