On Sunday the 5th April, 2015,Easter Sunday, the little township of Rathdowney will be transformed for the RathdowneyHeritage and Country Market.In 2015 the Rathdowney Area Development and Historical Association,INCwill run its fourth bush poetry competition. Theevents for 2015:

  1. A Children’s Performance event(grades 1-7) (Certificate to third place)
  2. A Children’s Written Event (Certificates to third place) post byFriday March 20th.
  3. APoetry Reading Event: For contestants who love to read bush poetry. (Money and Certificates for First and Runner up)($30, $20)
  4. ANovice Event: (Established or Original Poem)A novice competitorhas not won a novice or open event. Poet must attempt to memorise poem but can refer to poem on sheet. (Money and certificatesfor first and runner up)($80, $40)
  5. An Open Original Event:Bush Poetry written by performer. (Money and Certificates for first and Runner up)($100, $50)
  6. AnEstablished Poetry Event:Bush Poem written by someone else.(Money and certificates for first and runner up)($100,$50)
  7. The Rathdowney IDLE.This event can be a funny poem or song does not have to be original.(Trophy and certificate)

A Heritage Certificateand prizefor theBestHeritage Poemthat commemorates the ANZACS, this includes poems from thewalk–up’s.

8. The Virtual Bush Poetry Competition

In 2015 Rathdowney will have two new competitions for poets that cannot attend Rathdowney on the day.

(A)The Rathdowney Poets in Cyber- Space Competition.

Poets can perform their own original poem to an audience and record the performance on a DVD, Memory Card or Flash Drive. (As this is self funded competition certificates and money to the value of $100, $50, $30 if we have enough entries)

(B) The Rathdowney Bush Poetry and Technology Competition.

Poets can use their computer and bring their own poems to life with technology. Poets can read their poem and use music and any computer effects to illustrate their poem.

(As this is self funded competition, certificates and money to the value of $100, $50, $30 if we have enough entries) ($100 has been donated to get the ball rolling)

Rules for all competitors

  1. Judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  2. Entries will be numbered and late entries may be accepted depending on numbers.
  3. Children’s section is only open to primary school children.
  4. All open events are open to adults and high school students.
  5. This competition is not open to fulltime professional poets.
  6. Poems do not necessarily have to have a heritage or bush theme but they must be distinctly and undeniably Australian. Poems must have rhyme, rhythm and metre. Poets must acknowledge other poets work and seek permission to use poems where possible.
  7. Poems must be limited to 8 minutes, this includes preamble.

The Virtual Poetry Competition (For poets unable to attend)

  1. Poet s will record a performance of an original work in front of an audience on a DVD, memory card or flash drive. The judges must be able to see and hear your audience during the performance (a small group (4 or more).
  2. Entries in the Virtual Poetry Competition must be sent on a Flash Drive, Memory Card or DVD.

Place name and address on a separate entry form and post entry to be received by Friday 20th March. Entries can be returned if cost of postage is included.

Please post to the Rathdowney Information Centre at P.O. Box 17 Rathdowney.

  1. Multiple poems will still pay $10 each. RADHA is a Non-Profit Organisation.

Closing date to be guaranteed a place is 20th March late entries may be accepted depending on numbers.
