NC-FALCON TRAINING MODULES

NC-Falcon: North Carolina’s Formative Assessment Learning Community’s Online Network

The use of formative assessments is expected – with the data being used to guide instruction.

What are formative assessments?
A process used by teachers and students during instruction that provides feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to help students improve their achievement of intended instructional outcomes.

Formative Assessment includes:

·  Questioning

·  Discussions

·  Learning Activities

·  Feedback

·  Conferences

·  Interviews

·  Student Reflections

Formative assessment is found at the classroom level and happens minute-to-minute or in short cycles. Formative assessment is not graded or used in accountability systems. The feedback involved in formative assessment is descriptive in nature so that students know what they need to do next to improve learning. – ncpublicschools.org

For More information on Formative Assessments, go to the NC-Falcon homepage located at: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/acre/falcon/

** NC-Falcon training will be required of all new teachers. New Hires will complete NC-Falcon modules within a semester of being hired. It is strongly recommended that new hires within a school building join together to complete the modules as a PLC (Principal approval of PLC meeting dates and sign in rosters required). Certificates will be sent to the HR department for documentation and CEU credits.

NC-Falcon, now housed in NC Education, has four (4) modules – each will take approximately 90 minutes to complete. The district will provide 1.1 CEU credits to each person completing the training modules (including the digital journal activities included in each module).
