Uchi-komi (repetitious, non-throwing attack)
/ 20 minsExplain the need to practice using Uchi-komi and that it consists of repetitious, non-throwing attacks.
Demonstrate a set of 5 Uchi-komi – explaining the importance of the Uke
Line class in pairs as below: -

First Uke calls a throw – indicating left or right handed technique (prompting from Sensei may be required), 5 Uchi-komi sets of named throw each and then rotate one place to the right.

Tachiwaza (Standing Work)

Demonstrate Ko-Uchi-Gari (Minor inner reaping) using suitable Uke’s (Receivers) and get the class participants to try it.
Demonstrate the throw broken into parts, again with multiple Uke’s: -
(1) Entry, (2) the body position & (3) the final throw – allow participants to try each part twice each.
Now finally bring all of the parts together as a whole. Again allow the participants to try.

Standing Randori (light practice)

Variations to be called for…. i.e. only left hand, only hip throws, only rear attacks etc.

Explanation of Shime-Waza (Strangles/chokes)
/ 10 minsDemonstration to the class of Strangles used in the sport of judo.
Hadaka-Jime (Naked Strangle), Gyaku-Juji-Jime (Reverse cross strangle), Kata-Juji-Jime (Single cross strangle) & Kata-Te-Ashi-Koshi-Jime (Single hand leg hip strangle).
The safety implications will be explained and the need for great care! – these techniques would not be practised at this stage.
