Information on the HermanosSaíz Association creation grants for young artists and writers

FRONESIS CREATION GRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association, in order to stimulate the writing of novels, issues a call for the Fronesis Creation Grant. All Cuban writers up to 35 years of age living in the country, who have not received a grant in the last three editions, will be able to participate whether or not they are AHS members. Each author may submit as many projects as desired, accompanied by an excerpt of the unpublished text from 15 to 20 pages long, the original and two copies. The projects will be sent together with the following data: first and last names of the author, home address, ID card number, telephone, e-mail and a brief résumé, as well as a statement declaring that the project does in fact respond to an unfinished and unpublished book. The grant will consist in a diploma, the monthly payment of 600.00 CUPsfor a year and a tutorialgiven by a jury member, if the winner so wishes. During the process of writing the novel, the AHS will analyzesome excerpts or a chapter for possible publication.

The work should be finished and submitted to the AHS Board of Directors no later than 18 months after the first payment was made. Once it is finished, the AHS, together with the author, will make the necessary arrangements with a publishing house for the possible publication of the work

The works will be received until 30 September 2016 at the national headquarters of the Association, which will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

LA NOCHE CREATION GRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for the La Noche creation grant in honour of Cuban writer ExciliaSaldaña to promote the creation of works for children and youth. All Cuban writers up to 35 years of age living in the country, who have not won the grant in the last three editions, may participate, whether or not they are AHS members.

The project of the book, the original and two copies, double-spaced, will be submitted containing the title, literary genre, basis and objectives. The project will be accompanied by a sample of the work, 15-20 pages long. Writers are free to choose the theme and genre.

In addition, the following data will be included: first and last names of the author, address, telephone, e-mail and a brief résumé, as well as a statement declaring that the project does in fact respond to an unfinished and unpublished book. The jury will be formed by prestigious writers, who will award a grant consisting in a diploma and the monthly payment of 600.00 CUPsfor six months, as well as a tutorial given by a jury member or another person linked to the project from an aesthetic standpoint if the winner so wishes. The work must be finished and submitted to the AHS National Board no later than 12 months after having received the first payment. The Association, together with the author, will make the necessary arrangements with a publishing house for the possible publication of the work. The works will be received until 30 September 2016 at the provincial branches of the AHS and until 31 October at its national headquarters. The Association will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

MILANÉS CREATION GRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association, co-sponsored by the National Council for the Performing Arts (CNAE), issues a call for the Milanés Creation Grant to incentivize creation in the performing arts among youths. It will be granted to Cuban artists up to 35 years of age (actors, directors, playwrights, dancers, choreographers, etc.) living in the national territory, whether or not they are AHS members. The project submitted must be of value, so those interested must send information on the creative process they wish to develop, as well as a brief résumé. In the case of a stage production, the following data is to be sent: title of the work, synopsis of the text, objectives of the stage production, theoretical basis, characteristics of the space on stage to be used, wardrobe and stage design, steps in production and design. This grant consists in a diploma and the payment of 600.00 CUPs per artist during six months, for five persons or less, belonging or not belonging to one or several groups. The persons receiving the grant should submit the project in its final version, or present the premiere of the work on stage by the end of the period established in the grant. In addition, the AHS and the CNAE will take on the production of the project in case it is to be presented on stage. The winner will have the possibility of working with an outstanding figure of his/her specialty who, as a tutor, will oversee the creation process. The MilanésGrant will be awarded after the work projects and résumés have been assessed by a competent jury constituted by prestigious figures of the performing arts in Cuba. The works will be received until 30 September 2016 in the provincial branches of the AHS and until 31 October at its national headquarters. The AHS will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

CHICUELO CREATION GRANTS

The HermanosSaíz Association, in order to promote the creation and development of scripts for fiction audiovisuals, issues a call for the Chicuelo Creation Grants. All Cuban youths up to 35 years of age living in the national territory, who have not won the previous edition, may participate, whether or not they are AHS members. Those interested should request the grant by submitting from one to three projects of original scripts, although the person will only be awarded the grant for one of them. Three copies of the project will be submitted, together with the following information on the author: first and last names, ID card number, home address, telephone, e-mail address and a brief résumé. Up to two grants will be awarded consisting in a diploma and the monthly payment of 600.00 CUPsduring six months. After this period the author should submit the first version of the finished script to the AHS National Board. If the project is filmed, the support given by the AHS should be explicitly stated in the credits. The jury will be constituted by well-known figures of the Cuban audiovisual and its decision is final. The works will be received until 30 September 2016 in the provincial branches of the AHS and until 31 October 2016 at its national headquarters. The AHS will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

DOCUMENTARY FILM SCRIPT CREATION GRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for the Documentary Film Script Creation Grants in order to promote the creation and development of this audiovisual category. All Cuban youths up to 35 years of age, living in the national territory, who have not won the previous edition, will be able to participate, whether or not they are AHS members. Those interested will request the grants by submitting from one to three projects of original scripts, although the person will only be awarded the grant for one of them. Three copies of the project will be submitted, together with the following information on the author: first and last names, ID card number, home address, telephone, e-mail address and brief résumé. The grant will consist in a diploma and a monthly payment of 600.00 CUPsover a six-month period, at the end of which the author should submit a first version of the finished script to the AHS National Board. If the project is filmed, the support given by the AHS should be explicitly stated in the credits. ERNESTO CHE GUEVARA’S THOUGHTGRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for the Ernesto Che Guevara’s Thought Grant, in order to accompany and recognize the work of young researchers and essayists, as well as to stimulate the creation of essays. All Cuban authors up to 35 years of age, living in the national territory, who have not won thegrant in the last three editions, will be able to participate, whether or not they are AHS members. A project of an unpublished essay will be submitted, the original and two copies, from 7 to 10 pages long, with 1.5 spacing, which may deal with sociocultural (philosophical, historical, sociological and anthropological), artistic-literary (aesthetic and linguistic), political and ideological perspectives, among others. The projects will be sent together with the title of the work, and using the pseudonym system. In a different envelope the following information will be placed: first and last names, ID card number, home address, workplace or study centre, telephone, e-mail address and a brief résumé. The jury, constituted by well-known essayists and researchers in the specialties, will award a grant consisting in a diploma and the monthly payment of 600.00 CUPsover a six-month period to the creator of the winning project. In applying for the grant, the author is committed to submit an essay, no more than 40 pages long, which will be considered for publication by one of the AHS publishing houses. The projects will be received until 30 September 2016 at the provincial branches of the AHS and at the national headquarters until 31 October 2016. JUAN FRANCISCO ELSO VISUAL ARTS CREATION GRANTS

The HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for the Juan Francisco Elso Visual Arts Creation Grants. All Cuban artists up to 35 years of age, living in the national territory, whose projects correspond to the following modalities, namely, sculpture, painting, photography, graphic arts, ceramics and drawing, will be able to participate whether or not they are AHS members. The projects will be submitted in the original and two copies, and they will include the following data: participating category, first and last names, ID card number, home address, telephone, e-mail address, résumé, and the timetable for the project. The proposals must be originals and they cannot be committed with another contest or gallery. The grant consists in a diploma and a monthly payment of 600.00 CUPs over a six-month period. The AHS, together with the winning artist, will make the necessary arrangements for a possible exhibition of the work once it is finished. In turn, the National Council of Plastic Arts (CNAP) will provide a total of 1,000 CUCs to finance the production of the project, for which the grant winner will sign a contract with this institution. The jury will be constituted by artists, critics and specialists in the plastic artsof our country. The works will be received until 30 September 2016 in the AHS provincial branches and until 31 October at its national headquarters. The AHS will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

JUAN FRANCISCO ELSO VISUAL ARTS RESEARCH GRANTS

The HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for the Juan Francisco Elso Visual Arts Research Grant. Cuban critics and essayists up to 35 years of age, living in the national territory, will be able to participate, whether or not they are AHS members. The grant will be awarded to research projects dealing any field of the Cuban visual arts. They will be submitted in the original and two copies, and will include the following data: first and last names, ID card number, home address, telephone, e-mail address, résumé and the timetable for the project. The grant will consist in a diploma and a monthly payment of 600.00 CUPs over a six-month period. The AHS will accompany the grant winner in arranging the publication of the resulting research, if he so wishes. The jury for the grant will be constituted by critics and specialists in the visual arts of our country. The works will be accepted until 30 September 2016 at the AHS provincial branches and until 31 October 2016 at its national headquarters. The AHS will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

ANTONIA EIRIZ CREATION GRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for the Antonia EirizCreation Grant. All Cuban artists up to 35 years of age, living in the national territory, can participate, whether or not they are AHS members. Artists may submit their works in the following modalities: performance, environments, new media art and video art. The projects of the works will be presented in the original and two copies, and will include the following data: first and last names, ID card number, home address, telephone, e-mail address, résumé and the timetable for the project. The grant will consist in a diploma and a monthly payment of 600.00 CUPs over a six-month period. The AHS will accompany the winning artist in making the necessary arrangements for a possible exhibition of his work once it is finished. In turn, theNational Council of Plastic Arts (CNAP) will provide a total of 1,000.00 CUCs to finance the production of the project, for which the winning artist will sign a contract with this institution. The jury will be constituted by artists, critics and specialists in plastic arts of our country. RITA LONG CREATION GRANT

The HermanosSaíz Association and the Caguayo Foundation for the Monumental and Applied Artsissue a call for the Rita Longa Creation Grant. Cuban artists up to 35 years of age, living in the national territory, will be able to participate, whether or not they are AHS members, in the modality of sculpture. The projects of the works will be presented in the original and two copies, and will include the following data: first and last names, ID card number, home address, telephone, e-mail address, résumé and the timetable for the project. In addition, the original work should be presented in transit material in the definitive size, which can be done in plaster, wax or otherwise, accompanied by its descriptive memory. The grant will consist in a diploma and an apprenticeship for the winner so that he can carry out his project at the Caguayo S.A. workshop, in San Luis, Santiago de Cuba. The Caguayo Foundation will cover all the costs incurred in its elaboration, as well as the artist’s personal expenses (transportation, lodging and meals, in keeping with the timetable). The work will be done in the bronze casting in sand molds or the lost wax process and in a small format (up to 50 cm on any of its sides). The jury will be constituted by artists, critics and specialists in the plastic arts of our country. The works will be received until 30 September 2016 in the AHS provincial branches and until 31 October 2016 at its national headquarters. The AHS will not be held responsible for the return of the originals.

THE KINGDOM OF THIS WORLDCREATION GRANTS

In order to support the processes of artistic creation and research on the topics of culture conducted by its members, the HermanosSaíz Association issues a call for The Kingdom of this WorldGrants. Creation and research projects on all artistic expressions will be accepted. The presentation of the project should include the following data: title, author(s), AHS branch to which the artist belongs, entities or agencies that sponsor or co-sponsor, antecedents or sources of information (research process), conceptual basis, general objectives (strategic lines), specific objectives (expressed with a measuring criterion), vision (what is expected), timetable proposed and plan of expenditures. The projects can be delivered to the AHS provincial branches throughout the year. The proposals will become part of the project pool and will be evaluated quarterly at the meetings of the AHS National Board. The selected projects will be announced in the last week of the months of March, June and September of 2016, and they will be financed in full or partially, depending on the needs and possibilities of the HermanosSaíz Association. Those benefited by this grant should explicitly state the support given by the Association in their works, or in the publications, catalogues, CDs, multimedia, handouts where they appear. This will be recorded in a contract signed between the parties.
