CAMP STAFF ROLES:
CAMP DEAN(S) is the' chief administrator of
the Camp. The dean is responsible for everything that happens before, during, and after camp. The dean coordinates with the Camp Hope Program Director, the Conference Directors of Camping, and the Camp Manager.
PROGRAM STAFF have specialized skills used in
carrying out the program of the camp. These
include a Licensed Registered Nurse, Doctor or
EMT, Arts and Crafts Director and a Music Leader.
BUDDIES are persons 18 years of age or older
who serve as counselor "Buddies." Camp Hope has a family camp atmosphere with campers and
counselors of different age groupings. Our goal is
to have trained volunteer staff and professional
staff on an approximate one-on-one-ratio with
our campers. The camper and their Buddy
spend quality time together bonding and
having fellowship with other campers and their
“Buddies”: ~ The staff is required to have a
willingness to work with others in a Special Needs Ministry and to be able to accept each camper as a person with gifts and abilities.
STAFF TRAINING:
New staff will be invited to attend an orientation session prior to attending a planning session. Camp Staff are asked to attend at least two of the planning sessions scheduled by the Dean and Program Director prior to camp. Staff are required to attend the entire session of camp unless other arrangements are planned IN ADVANCE of camp and approved by the Dean.
IS THE STAFF PAID?
Room and board are provided in exchange for your volunteer service as a staff member.
WHY VOLUNTEERS? QUALITY OF CARE- Volunteers are not looking 'for a summer job,’ they are present because they choose to be present often sacrificing personal vacation time to participate.
CONGRUITY - Many camp staff return year after year providing a shared experience and maturation process with the campers.
RECRUITMENT – Volunteer program staff make excellent recruiters / coordinators.
ACCESSIBILITY - Volunteers enable us to keep the cost of camp affordable to more people.
YOU ARE A BLESSING TO OTHERS

CAMP HOPE
A Christian camping experience serving persons who are cognitively impaired or developmentally disabled and ambulatory ages 14 years and older. Opportunity for all participants to be personally involved in worship, crafts, music, recreation, talent show and programs, renewing and forming
new friendships. Because every camper has their own "Buddy," each camper can participate and have choices of activities as they are most comfortable.
Camp Hope is a place where each person is loved and respected as a person. Everyone is affirmed for their abilities.
Camp Hope began its ministry in 1988. The
program is sponsored by the Board of Camping and Retreat Ministries of the Desert Southwest Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
