Secretary’s Report
It is with great pleasure that I present this year’s annual report to the members of the Associations. Once again, it has been a very successful season both on and off the park.
With 45 teams, an even competition occurred across all grades – my congratulations to the minor premiers for their consistency across the season, and to the major premiers for their efforts in the finals.
My thanks also to our Patron, Mr Harry Solomons, and the South Sydney Junior Rugby League Football Club, for their support of the Association.
The Association is in a sound financial position, as shown in the audited accounts contained within this annual report. This means that the Association is in a position to expand and improve the status of Park cricket in the eastern suburbs over the next year.
This would not be possible without the contributions made to cricket by the Board, and its volunteer members, in order for the more than 800 players to get on the park and play each weekend. Thank you, as a Board you have made my job a pleasure.
And finally, thank you to all the member clubs, their administrators, and finally all the players of each and every team – you are what park cricket is really all about…
Yours in cricket
Tim ‘Webko’ Booth
Secretary
President’s Report
Ladies and Gentlemen:
It has been 9 years since the Moore Park, South Sydney and Catholic Cricket Associations combined to form the current Moore Park &South East Cricket Association. In the past nine years we have seen the Association develop and it has continued to prosper during 2004-2005 season. The season had not started when it was decided at the AGM two people, Marie Fulford and John Walden both of whom have made an outstanding contribution, should be awarded life membership. My congratulations to both Marie and John as you have both earned the recognition bestowed on you by the members.
This season saw 45 teams register with two new sides in Tudor Hall and Prime Ministers X1, as well as a renaming of 3rd Cavaliers to Kurrajong Hotel. It is great to see the Kurrajong Hotel supporting a team and it is hoped there support will continue as they have previously supported sides in the Moore Park CA.
I would like to congratulate the Premiership, Minor Premiership, Club Champions and individual award winners on there success in 2004-2005. In particular, I congratulate the Clovelly club who were the only club to win both a Premiership and Minor Premiership in the same grade (6th grade) and also win the Club Championship – well done Clovelly. I also note two sides who won a Premiership from 4th place, certainly not an easy task – well done, Saggy Greens and Waugh Torn.
Success was enjoyed on the Representative front with all three rep games recorded as victories. It was particularly pleasing to win again the AT Ray trophy, a trophy we have never lost, against the Sydney Morning Competition in our annual match. It was extremely pleasing to hear positive comments on the way our players conducted themselves both on and off the field. My congratulations to all rep players and to our captain, Richard Bilkey and vice captain Nick Carter – a job well done, you are all a credit to the game, particularly the Association you represent.
For an association to be successful, it needs support. I would like to thank a number of people for there support in season 2004-2005-:
Mr. Harry Solomons, Managing Director Kingsgrove Sports. Harry has been a long time supporter of the Association and its members, however this year Harry agreed to take on a new role, Patron of the Association. I thank Harry for accepting the role and for his generous support through donations via his sporting complex. I look forward to a long association with Harry and I remind all teams…..say hi to Harry when you go to Kingsgrove Sports for all your cricket gear, I am sure he will do a deal! Thanks again Harry Solomons.
South Sydney Juniors Club. Not only do we get a great deal for our presentation evening but the club also financially contributes to ground costs each year. To the Board of Souths Juniors, my thanks for your continued support and the Association looks forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come.
Kensington War Memorial RSL. Thank you to the Board for the use of the club for delegates and Board meetings. The club has become our base for meetings and we are truly grateful to be allowed the use of the various meeting rooms. Thank you also for the trophy cabinet that now houses our perpetual trophies.
Centennial Park Trust, Botany Council, Randwick Council. Our thanks to these bodies, which provide and maintain our grounds each week. A thank you also to Ed Neylan, who arranged the use of Tempe for part of the season to alleviate some early season shortage of grounds.
The MPSECA Board. An Association does not and cannot function without the dedicated group of volunteers that make up your Board. My thanks to each and everyone on the Board for not only there time but there contribution in the decision making process. Their efforts ensured that not only was the Association successful, but it provided a competition in a manner that is looked up to by other Associations.
Umpires. My thanks to the umpires, who this year increased their ranks by 5 - Welcome to our new recruits. I also look forward to seeing some of those who passed the local umpires exam run by the Association this year take on some practical umpiring on the park in 2005-2006.
The Judiciary. Thank you to Chairman John Walden and the members of his committee. This year there were only 2 judicial hearings, a vast improvement on past years and probably one of the lowest number of hearings for any Association affiliated to NSWDCA. My congratulations to all players for their understanding of the importance of the Code of Conduct and I look forward to a further downward trend in judiciary hearings.
To all players and members of the association. My thanks for your support for without our members we would not have this great association.
Finally thank you and a congratulatory note to John Chalmers who completes 40 years service to cricket as a player, umpire, umpires coordinator, rep manager, committee member, board member and life member. What can one say when a man like John achieves such a milestone……..not only thank you as a friend but as a friend and confidante to all whom you have been in contact with him on all of those Saturday afternoons walking around Moore Park. Congratulations John and may you continue your pacing around the park for many years to come!!!
Season 2005-2006 will be our 10th year as MPSECA and the Board has in place a proposed tour of country centres in January/February 2006, a 20/20 cricket competition and the launch of a new logo.
Yes, it is looking very positive for 2005-2006 and I am sure we will have another successful season, I look forward to seeing you all on the park in 2005-2006.

Representative Season Report
A very successful season was achieved by 14 dedicated cricketers. The team was well led by Richard Bilkey and Nick Carter who were both helped by John Jakas.
The batting was well served by John Jakas, who held the side together a couple of times. He had very good support from fellow Wombats player Andrew Heffernan and the young gun Shaun Casey. The bowling was quite potent at times, with spearhead Matt Bond getting the early breakthrough on a couple occasions, especially against Northern Suburbs, getting their gun batsman first ball of the match. Matt was well supported by Simon Gardiner, Billy Saracoglu & Shaun Casey in the pace department, and the wily Charles Rao providing spinning variety.
We had three wins from three games. The first was against Northern Suburbs at Willoughby Oval on a wicket that had a few surprises, The second game was against the Sydney Morning Cricket Association, which was played at Kensington Oval on a wicket which I think found some of the SMCA players a little short. The third game was also played at Kensington Oval against Bathurst District Cricket Association – this game being played for The Plank (the next best thing to the Ashes!). This game was a very close encounter indeed.
Our team this season showed that the standard of cricket in this association at the moment is very strong. I hope that these dedicated cricketers are available for the country tour in 2006 and also for our local representative season.
I would personally like to thank Marie Fulford for her outstanding dedication to the scoring duties and arranging the lunches during the games – thanks again Marie! Secondly, Gary for his astute umpiring during the three games and I also can’t leave out Tim and Paul for their help in the selection process.
Once again thanks and let’s hope we can go on with these performances next season.
Bill Glacken
Manager.

First Grade Report
The 2004/2005 First Grade competition saw Souths Juniors, after a two year absence, return as Premiers to make it a total of 7 first grade premierships since the MP&SECA formed in 1995. Souths turned the tables on the Coogee Bay Hotel Rebels defeating them in the final after Coogee had defeated Souths the season before.
Souths Juniors
Souths resumed their dominance of the first grade competition with an emphatic win over Coogee Bay in the final after finishing in second place after the preliminary rounds of the competition. Batting was once again Souths strength with Justin Smith outstanding with 616 runs at an average of 68.44. Others to score well were Adam Crawley 398 @ 30.62, James Hourn 372 @ 24.8, Anthony Sinclair 297 @ 29.7 and Eli Kapodistrias 245 @ 40.83. Souths best with the ball were Greg Scott 23 wickets @ 15.52, Anthony Sinclair 22 wickets @ 22.59 and Justin Smith 19 wickets @ 20.16. No surprise to see Justin Smith collect the most Player’s Player points with 18.
