Dear Parent/Guardian,August 25, 2016
Hello and welcome to your child’s sixth grade year at the RobertBenjaminWileyCommunityCharterSchool! My name is Melissa Kosko and I am your child’s new sixth grade teacher. I would like to tell you a little about myself; however, I would first like to say that I am very excited and honored to be given the opportunity to be your child’s teacher!
I graduated from MercyhurstCollege in November 2005. I am a certified Elementary Education Teacher (K-6) and have a minor in the Spanish language. I also have certification to teach Math in grades 7-9. I have recently received my Master’s Degree in Special Education from Edinboro University, and will be seeking certification during the 2016-2017 school year. Throughout my college years, I had many practical and amazing experiences in several classrooms. I also traveled to Honduras in Central America to work with people in a less fortunate country than our own. Since my graduation, I have substitute taught in the ErieSchool District, WattsburgSchool District, and at SaintLukeSchool. These experiences have taught me to use diverse ways of teaching so that each child learns, as well as the importance of classroom management and organization. During my ten years as part of the Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School, I have continued to participate in many professional training programs that have continued to highly qualify me to be your child’s teacher, including data-driven instructional methods, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of every child, and strategic behavior management skills. This year, I look forward to many productive changes that have been made to ensure your child is learning—in my classroom, in the school, and at home. Outside of school, my hobbies include arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, and traveling….and of course, doing all this with my 8-year old daughter, named Olivia!
Sixth grade is an exciting year for your child! He/she will be switching classes for the first time, engaging in new challenges, and growing as an adolescent. I will be teaching your child Math and Science; while my colleague, Mrs. Montero, will be teaching Language Arts and Social Studies. I, as well as the rest of the Robert Benjamin Wiley staff, am prepared to assist your child in his/her new endeavors. As a team, both in and out of school, I feel confident that your child will be nurtured into a well-rounded young adult. Together, we are preparing him/her for a successful future!
Once again, I am very excited and honored to be your child’s teacher! Please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, and comments. We only ask that your child’s learning is not interrupted! Therefore, please limit contact and meetings for before and after school time. In order to better assist you, I would appreciate advance notice and a scheduled appointment to discuss your child’s schoolwork and needs. Of course, we understand the occasional emergency. Therefore, voicemail will ALWAYS be an accessible form of contact throughout the day, as well as contact through the school office (461-9600). I will return your call!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Melissa Kosko
