INTERNAL ONLY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Student Affairs Specialist – Admissions Counselor

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical Collegeand not with an individual campus.
  • All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for performing specialized duties in support of student affairs functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field of the position and sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position,

Or an Associate Degree with two years of paid work experience in Student Affairs,

Or four years of paid work experience in Student Affairs.

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

SALARY/BENEFITS

  • Salary $35,842.37 annually.
  • Please be aware that all Chattahoochee Technical College employees must be paid by DIRECT DEPOSIT unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing specialized duties in support of student affairs functions.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Conducts campus tours and information sessions for prospective students.
  • Counsels prospective students and applicants through the application process.
  • Answers community inquiries via email and phone.
  • Sends mass communications to applicants in accordance with the applicant communication plan.
  • Assists prospective students in selecting an optimal program of study.
  • Organizes and coordinates the application process for select programs of study.
  • Interprets college transcripts and makes acceptance decisions.
  • Makes recruitment visits to high schools, career fairs, etc. as needed.
  • Serves on various department or College committees or work groups.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational/technical education.
  • Knowledge of college programs of study.
  • Knowledge of college admissions requirements.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal regulations.
  • Skill to work cooperatively with community leaders, students, faculty and staff.
  • Skill to make timely decisions.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Policy and Procedures Manual, Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state legislation, policy and guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied specialized duties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for student affairs functions. Success in this position contributes to the recruitment and retention of students and the efficient and effective operation of campus programs.

CONTACTS

  • Contacts are typically with students, faculty, staff, college administrators, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to motivate or influence persons, to resolve problems, to give or exchange information, or to provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has functional supervision over assigned work student students.
