BOARD MEETING – January 13, 2009

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 7:31 P.M.

Park Board Members: Arthur Lovering, Barbra Pabst, Demerise Gratch, Judith Snyder, Gail Ito, John Swanson

Parks & Recreation Department Staff: Jan Hincapie, Jan Springer, Richard Quattrocki, Julie Barnhill

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

On motion, Gratch/Snyder to approve the December 9, regular meeting minutes. 6-0, Motion passed.

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION/LETTERS FROM THE PUBLIC

E-mail from Al White, Turkey Trot participant, thanking the department for finding a lost item.

OLD BUSINESS

A.  ComEd and Union Pacific Railway Bike Path Update

Jan Hincapie gave a power point presentation on the background/progress of these projects and possible grant opportunities.

* Lovering – Do the Union Pacific and ComEd lines connect eventually?

* Ito – Having Master Plans in place prepare us to better handle opportunities like this when

they arrive.

NEW BUSINESS

A.  Consideration of current year goals status and goals for next budget year

Included in Board packet and will be part of the proposed 09-10 budget.

* Ito – Would like to see a goal addressing multi-cultural outreach, other cultures do not know

what Parks and Recreation offer and we need to use the ELL Center as an outreach tool.

B.  Review of initial budget summary

Included in Board Packet, reflects the Villages request to cut 3%.

* Snyder – There are many unseen positive benefits of the park Patrol Program, and it needs to

remain in the budget.

B. RECREATION COORDINATOR – JULIE BARNHILL

Zumba and Tai Chi are new programs that are currently running. Daddy/Daughter registration

numbers have improved.
