Release 2.0 Enhancements

A. Purpose

The purpose of this document is to share planned enhancements in VBS Release 2.0, scheduled for 12/20/10.

B. Overview

Release 2.0 focuses on added system security features and account management. Specifically, this Release establishes default usernames and validates user e-mail addresses.

With Release 2.0, users can also reset their own password, and manage accounts for both VBS and SPURSView in a central location.

VBS agency administrators can also easily update and manage account information for each user within their agency.

C. Approach Discussion

Enhanced Security

With Release 2.0, VBS now meets the state’s security standards for online applications. New features include:

·  VBS Administrator / Security Maintenance – Search by username, change PUI, security level, reset passwords for agency users, or delete a user account.

·  Secure Passwords – Passwords must now meet the state’s security standards and will expire after 90 days. Users can now update their own passwords in their VBS profile.

·  Enhanced customer profiles – Create new accounts with specific security levels and reset passwords. Also enables users to update and manage account information. VBS agency administrators can also manage, update, and assign passwords to others.

E-mail Address Validation

VBS now validates e-mail addresses as part of the new user registration process. E-mail addresses are also required as part of a user’s account information.

Current users: We encourage you to validate your e-mail address in VBS as soon as possible once Release 2.0 is implemented on 12/20/10.

Standard Usernames

Agency customer’s e-mail addresses (before the @ symbol) will become their new VBS username. For example, ‘s VBS username will be updated to “Amy.Zeigler,” upon validating their information after the first log in following Release 2.0. This provides a standard, enterprise-wide naming convention and enables VBS agency administrators to easily communicate with their agency users.

Current users: You are assigned your new username after validating your e-mail address the first time you log in to VBS after Release 2.0 is implemented on 12/20/10 (using previous credentials). After this initial log in, your username will be automatically updated to match your e-mail address (before the @ symbol).

Secure Passwords

With Release 2.0, additional security features enable VBS users to manage their own passwords. Before this Release, VBS agency administrators or the VBS help desk reset passwords to “new.”

In addition, passwords must meet three of the four following state-issued criteria per Rule 71A, F.A.C.:

·  Minimum of eight (8) characters and a maximum of fifteen (15) characters

·  Inclusion of at least one (1) special character or digit

·  Inclusion of one (1) capital letter

·  Inclusion of one (1) lowercase letter

Passwords will also expire every 90 days.

Current users: We encourage you to validate your e-mail and change your password as soon as possible once Release 2.0 is implemented on 12/20/10. We will periodically review existing accounts and apply the new requirements to them by agency.

Automated Password Reset

Customers can now reset their own password using the Password Change link in both VBS and SPURSView at the top of each homepage screen. Users can also reset their own password in the customer profile, which includes a link to log in to VBS.

VBS agency administrators can also update passwords and print reports for an agency’s existing users utilizing their customer profile.

SPURSView / VBS Admin Accounts

You can now access VBS and SPURSView under one single user account. SPURSView account administration will be handled by agency administrators in VBS, rather than by its own administrators. Administrators can also set up separate user permissions for each application.

Additional Changes in the Release

Search results for VBS no longer show the ‘More’ button to see additional results. All results are returned on one screen.

D. Estimated Implementation

Amendments will be implemented before Monday, 12/20/10, as Release 2.0. DMS’ Business Automation Services (BAS) will complete implementation.
