The Native People: Algonquin and Iroquois people
SHORT TERM GOALS
  • Explain how Algonquin and Iroquois natives developed different cultures in response to the conditions of their different environments.
  • Explain how although the Algonquin and Iroquois considered warfare as a part of life, they were able to create a peace treaty that ended fighting among their people.
  • Describe the circumstances that led to the formation of the Iroquois League.

  • Students will understand how economics, people and key events connected to shaping a nation.
  • Students will recognize that a great variety of Native cultures existed in North America at the time that the first Europeans reached this continent.
  • Explain the important role of religion in the way of life of the Iroquois and Algonquin people.
  • Demonstrate the relationship between natural resources of an area and the quality of life of the Algonquin and Iroquois who lived in that area.
