THE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION
To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H.4484) to request that the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the juncture of Augusta Highway (SC 61) and Sidney’s Road (S21) in Colleton County, etc., respectfully
REPORT:
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:
LAWRENCE K. GROOMS for Committee.
[4484-1]
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERSECTION LOCATED AT THE JUNCTURE OF AUGUSTA HIGHWAY (SC 61) AND SIDNEY’S ROAD (S21) IN COLLETON COUNTY “GRUBER’S CROSSROADS”, AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS INTERSECTION THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS “GRUBER’S CROSSROADS”.
Whereas, Gruber’s Crossroads is located at the intersection of Augusta Highway (SC 61) and Sidney’s Road (S21) in Colleton County; and
Whereas, the area was settled in the 1730s, and Gruber families have lived on the four corners of the crossroads for many years; and
Whereas, the crossroads is considered to be the center of the community; and
Whereas, Gruber’s Cemetery, located at the crossroads, was officially named by the Department of Archives and History as a historical landmark; and
Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to recognize the Gruber family’s ties to this community by naming this junction in their honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the juncture of Augusta Highway (SC 61) and Sidney’s Road (S21) in Colleton County “Gruber’s Crossroads”, and erect appropriate markers or signs at this intersection that contain the words “Gruber’s Crossroads”.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
