Classroom Procedures
Entering the Classroom:
· Come prepared to class with all Materials.
- Book, Pencil, Agenda, Paper, Binder with your ISN, Homework, Positive Attitude…
· In your seat, quiet and prepared to get started when the bell rings.
- Homework out on desk.
- Starting on the Bell-Ringer or Warm-up without being prompted.
Entering the Classroom When Class Has Already Started:
· Knock quietly and wait to be waived in by the teacher.
· Enter Quietly.
· Go directly to your seat.
· Get started immediately without talking.
· Listen and See the board in order to catch up. When there is time, feel free to speak with me to clear up details you may have missed.
When You Are Absent:
· When a student is absent it is the responsibility of the student to:
- Come to me for the work upon their return.
- Return it in a timely manner without having to be asked for it.
Asking A Question and Class Discussions:
· Raise your hand to get permission to speak or get up.
· Wait to be call on.
End of Class Dismissal:
· The teacher will dismiss you at the conclusion of class. Stay in your seat until that occurs.
· Pack up only on the teacher’s directive.
· Exit Quietly.
· Make sure your area is clean.
· Clean up after yourself. No paper left on the floor, straighten desks…
Turning in Homework:
· Homework/Assignments not turned in on the due date will be accepted late for partial credit! Work not brought to me in a timely manner could result in a zero.
Working in Groups (Group Projects/Partner Work):
· You will be graded on your cooperation and participation.
· Rubrics detailing the Expectations will be given.
· Failure to cooperate and participate will result in a poor grade, removal from the group or a zero on the Activity.
· Speak only to your group members.
· Use “Six-Twelve Inch Voices”. Voice level can only be heard by those 6-12 inches away
· Pay attention to directions.
· Respect your team members!
When Visitors Are in The Room:
· Continue Working.
· If appropriate, engage in conversation with the visitor.
· Be polite.
School Wide Announcement:
· Stop what you are doing.
· No talking.
· Listen.
Fire Drill/Tornado Drill:
· Line up quietly.
· Listen to instructions.
· Walk quietly to assigned destination.
· On arrival continue to be still and quiet until directed otherwise.
Sharpening Pencils:
Pencils- must be sharpened BEFORE class!
Being Courteous/Considerate, Especially with Words!:
· Make sure your words are appropriate and considerate of others. The words you may use outside of school may not be appropriate for the classroom or for anywhere at school. You know the kinds of words I am talking about and any use of them will result in consequences. If you are unsure of the appropriateness of certain words, do not use them! No excuses.
· Absolutely no bullying!
Leaving the Room:
· No student will leave the room without permission.
· You will be given three passes per quarter (total) to be used for:
- Restroom
- Water
- Locker Visit for something you forgot or need.
- Use them wisely!
I’m Done, Now What:
* Check with me, but do not announce it to the class like you need an applause or something.
* Read a book.
* Finish any missing assignments.
* Work on an assignment from another class.
* No Talking or moving around unless directed to do so by the teacher.
* Check with me to see if there is something you can do to help others.
Basic Classroom Skills
· Make responsibility a daily routine in this class.
· Remain seated at all times, unless directed otherwise by the teacher.
· Treat your fellow classmates and teacher with respect at all times.
· Use appropriate words.
· Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
· No cheating. See Student Code of conduct.
· Wise and productive use of Time!
TARDY POLICY:
All students must be inside the classroom before the door is closed after the tardy bell has rung. Students’ entering after class after the bell has rung will considered tardy. After 2 tardies the student will receive sentences, Citizenship Blunder Handout, or a PLO to complete. After 3 tardies the student will receive a detention.
Consequences
First à Verbal Warning and the opportunity to change the behavior. Possibly a private discussion.
Second à Students will be assigned one of the following:
1. “Citizenship Blunder Handout”.
2. Positive Learning Opportunities (PLO’s) from one of the following resources:
A. The student syllabus, which details appropriate and acceptable behavior.
B. A collection of my favorite motivational quotes.
C. A Dictionary.
D. Other Sources of my choosing.
** Extra Credit will be given at the end of each quarter for all students who avoid this.
* Failure to complete the PLO will result in an After School Detention in which the assigned PLO’s will be completed.
Third à Student will be assigned an after-school detention. Phone call home.
Fourth à Office Referral and removal from the classroom.
What will I be graded on?
· Tests and Major Projects
· Quizzes
· Homework/Class Work
· Interactive Student Notebook (Every Student receives their own from me)
· Written Assignments/Reports
· Journal Entries/Daily Warm-Ups/Bell Ringers
· Citizenship Grade
- Participation, Cooperation, Respect, Effort Responsibility, Honesty, etc… All characteristics necessary to exemplify citizenship!
How will I be Graded?
Each Test and Assignment will be worth an appropriate amount of points. Grades are figured by taking your total points and dividing by the total points possible.
What do I need?
· A Two-inch Three-Ring Binder.
· Colored Pencils.
· Loose Leaf Paper or a spiral notebook to be kept in the binder with your ISN.
· Highlighters
· Pencils
What Should I Expect?
· Daily Writing Activities (Bell-Ringers, Daily Warm-ups, reactions, summaries, journal entries, etc...)
· Note taking in your ISN and paper from your binder.
· Class Participation is expected and encouraged.
· Tests and quizzes will include short answer and extended response questions, as well as multiple choice, true/false and fill-ins.
· Citizenship Grades.
