Fraternal Order of Police / Weekly Report
Prepared by:Burke & Associates / Sunday, April 19, 2015

As of today we are entering the last scheduled week of the 2015 legislative session. The current session is slated to go sine die Sunday the 26th. However, on Thursday Governor Inslee called in budget negotiators from both houses and stated that he would not sign any agreed upon budgets into law unless more revenues were generated from education and his priorities. This makes it highly likely that we are headed for a special session unless some serious horse trading happens in the next week. Of course none of this is unexpected. It has been predicted before the session ever began.

In general Public Safety has had a very good session. There have been no attacks on collective bargaining or our pension plans. Our surviving spouses will receive benefits that are justly deserved and law enforcement again demonstrated that we take care of our own. The only real negative that comes to mind is that in a surprise move the Warrant Officer Bill (1029) was designated NTIB (Necessary to Implement the Budget). It was pulled to the house floor this week and passed on a 70 aye to 28 nay vote majority when we all thought the bill was dead. This bill is not done yet and I will provide an update as the week goes along. Interestingly WACOPS, COMPAS and FOP all opposed this legislation which was championed by WASPC.
